It really depends on how mature a reader she is. I read the Harry Potter Series when I was 8, so this book wouldn't have been a problem for me. It's a relatively clean romance (mainly in the second and third books). If she can't read as well, I would suggest starting out with easier books, like nancy drew. Those have a little romance in some of them. As long as her reading skills are decent, these should be fine for an 8 year-old.
