Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I love Jenny because she can hold her own with Jamie. That, and her fierce, protective love for her brother and family makes her awesome! I canna wait to see her be feisty with Jamie!

Sam really is swoon worthy.

The cast is pure gold! I'm so excited!!

Leea | 1239 comments Sam has filled in every little nook and cranny that was missing in the Jamie in my mind. Now there's just Sam = Jamie!

message 13: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Oct 18, 2013 06:47AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Wendy, I feel exactly the same way. I am so giddy it's barely contained. I gobble up any and all updates as soon as they appear.

Leea, it's so true. Sam=Jamie for me as well. I never believed it would be possible, but it is. I have this feeling he's going to light up the screen. I think I'll faint when it premiers in March.

I'm verra impatient to see who they cast as Ian Mòr. I love his character so much!!

message 20: by Kimberly (last edited Oct 22, 2013 05:42PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimber1581) | 4 comments I don't like the actress who plays Claire : (

(Sam as Jaime is absolute perfection though)

I've always pictured Claire much prettier. Also, she's too tall standing next to Sam. If I remember correctly Claire is about 5'6" and Jaime is well over 6'3", right?? Her head always fit perfectly in the hallow in his chest when they stood next to each other.

message 21: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I did notice that she's a bit taller than Claire was described, but it doesn't bug me. She's 5'9, and Sam is 6/3, so she's about 2 inches too tall and he's about 2 too short. I can overlook it because it's close.

Other than that, she's about perfect for me. She's pretty close to what I pictured. Especially in the images above with 'Frank'.

message 22: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimber1581) | 4 comments Jaime is constantly described as a very large man in the books (height, breath of shoulders, etc) and I think that her being a few inches shorter than him takes away from that a lot.

Also, she's always described to have delicate "French" facial features and I think her nose is too big. I think I just always had an image of a petite Kate Beckinsale in my head with crazy, curly "Noxzema girl" hair.

I know I'm just being picky and am sure my opinion will change once I see her bring Claire to life on screen : )

message 23: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments We all see different things. I never saw Kate Beckinsale when I imagined Claire. Too skinny and her features are too sharp. I always pictured Rachel Weisz, and her curls I imagined bigger curls, lol.

I do agree with you about the height, but since most aspects are nearly perfect for me I can overlook it.

message 24: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments My sentiments exactly Wendy - Rachel Weisz has always been my Claire (from the time of the Mummy) but now she could only do the later years. I love how the actors and actresses are not well known though that way they will always be Outlander characters in my mind. Of all of them I am most skeptical about Claire though because of the height and her Irish accent. I am confident though that once I see her in the part that she will become Claire for me. They definitely want to do this thing right and they are not going to take shortcuts.

message 25: by Kimberly (last edited Oct 22, 2013 07:51PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimber1581) | 4 comments I've dated a guy that was about a foot taller than me (close to Claire/Jamie - at 5'6" and 6'4"). When reading the books I could always envision their height difference as I experienced it personally. Jamie is a very large man (I feel that his size, like his red hair, straight nose and cat like Fraser eyes, is an extremely important part of his physical appearance), and though I am sure this actress will do a lovely job, I just feel that her 5'9" stature is taking away from Jamie's true size. Those of you who have ever hugged a man in flats, with your face buried right in his chest would hopefully understand.

That being said, I am cool with whatever Ron and Starz create and cannot wait for the series to start!

I think size is important but I think with the series it will be how the 2 act together and the emotion that they can emit on screen. To me that is more important than to have them of specific heights. As long as she is shorter than him by some degree I am good :) I will be to busy Oogling and Drooling.

message 27: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Kimberly wrote: "I've dated a guy that was about a foot taller than me (close to Claire/Jamie - at 5'6" and 6'4"). When reading the books I could always envision their height difference as I experienced it personal..."

I am 5'2 " and my husband is 6'3" so I guess that is exactly why I would like to see a bigger difference in their height - I envision it when I read about it. Diana is significantly shorter than her husband that is why she writes that so well. Over all though, I think it is much more important for Jamie to be taller than most of the other cast than the difference between Claire and Jamie. That will not make much of a difference when the story is shown. Besides since Claire is "moderen" she would likely be taller than most women of the 1700's so it will blend in with the story.

message 28: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Diane hit it on the head for me. Jamie's height is EXTREMELY important, but more so than how much taller he is than Claire it's important in comparison to how much taller he is than the rest of the cast. Claire's height wasn't quite as important as Jamie's as far as the storyarch, and it was also said multiple times that by standards in the 1740's she was tall for a woman. So, while her head may not land exactly where Claire's did in the book, as long as Jamie is taller than most men (Dougal was nearly as tall as Jamie, as were the MacKenzie's on a whole, remember Jamie's dad said that Jamie would 'be as big as his mother's folk'), and Claire is taller than most women, I'm good.

message 29: by Kimberly (last edited Oct 23, 2013 11:31AM) (new)

Kimberly (kimber1581) | 4 comments Diane - I remember in one of the books when Claire mentioned something about Jamie being gentle "as only big men can be" and from that I totally could get that Diana's husband was tall because she nailed that characteristic about them perfectly.

message 30: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 549 comments I loved that too when she talked about big men. My husband is really tall and I completely identified with that. Diana is such a great writer. I can't even imagine how much research she did for these books.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I think Jamie's height is extremely important to the story. It is mentioned countless times throughout the books and it factors into how situations play out repeatedly. He can be comparable in height to the MacKenzie clan, but very few others. As for Claire, she needs to be shorter than Jamie (by at least 6" in my opinion), but taller than other women we see. Again, it is mentioned repeatedly in books how she has to look up to talk to Jamie. I think the two lead actors are too close in height, but I'm sure they'll still make it work. Hopefully they keep all of this in mind as they continue to cast other people for the show.

message 32: by Annie (new)

Annie (annjordan) | 36 comments The TV series is an adaptation of the book. I am not going to compare the book to the TV series. I have a feeling the TV series is going to be one of the best ever produced, since the book is the best ever book.

message 33: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) The only real height comparison we have is the one set of pix and videos that Sam & Caitriona (sp?) filmed for the New York Comic Con that Ron Moore and Diana G took with them to show. And I figured C was wearing modern shoes with heels.

Even so, these 2 look great together. And it *is* mentioned many times that Claire was tall for a woman, especially women in the 1700s. I think S and C look great together, and I can't wait to see them as Jamie and Claire.

While I'm not sure I'd say that C looks French, but she's got the right look. If Diana G is happy, then I am, too!

THANK YOU for the updated cast pix and associated character names. Sometimes it's tough to keep the face and the character straight.

message 34: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments It's been quiet on the Outlander front as of late, makes me think something bigs coming. Love Jamie!!

message 35: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments well said, gertt. And can I just add, the first time I read Diana's thoughts when watching Sam's audition I cried, lol.

message 36: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Haha, Leea! I watched that video a billion times! He's absolutely delish. I love it when he says, "bonny Scotland" and "C'mon Sassenach!"

I read that post when DG first wrote it and I loved her all the more for it! The fact that Sam won Herself over made me never question it anymore. Same thing for Cait. I trust her opinion implicitly since she's the one who created the characters. I'm not trepidatious at all. It's going to be amazing!

I teared up, too, Wendy! :)

Peggyzbooksnmusic OK, am melting! Heart is pounding! He IS Jamie!

Also, I'm VERY happy with the actress who has been cast as Claire; she has that "spunky" look about her that is so important to her character!

Zoey (rozannen) | 229 comments Love Love Love!!!!!

That just made my Friday afternoon :)

and Im with you Jen, some of the negativity on FB is driving me nuts!!

But their loss, they will too busy complaining about hair colour, body hair, & nose length to enjoy what we know is going to be an AMAZING show.

CANT WAIT!!! :) Good Lord I am turning into my 14 year old niece the one direction fan, I am going to have to stop teasing her about being all fangirly LOL

message 50: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments You're absolutely right, Zoey! It's their loss. 'Tis going to be AMAZING!!! I canna wait!

This is the one instance where it is completely acceptable to turn fangirly, LOL.

Brilliant that the first shot of our Jamie was a kilt shot. They knew what we've been wanting!
