I'm reading The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare I gave the set to my 13y/o granddaughter for Xmas and we're reading them together. I'm about done with City of Ashes. These are definitely YA/Teen PNR, not my thing, but I'm enjoying the escapism and reminiscence of teen-hood. I quite liked the movie which I saw 1st.

Not all are ghost stories, but Robert Dunbar's Martyrs and Monsters is definitely worth reading.

I never finished [book:Winter's Tale
. It had some of the most beautiful writing I've come across ever, but for reasons I can't remember, I abandoned the book. One of these days I'll pick it up again.

Thanks for the link Dan I enjoyed the interview. I didn't know there were so many books in the series, I think I've only got up to number three..

Really interesting interview Dan. Good to know too that there are so many more books in the series to look forward to reading. I like the idea of watching characters develop over the years, finding out a little more about them book by book.

message 44: by Dan (new)

Dan (danlopez) | 13 comments It really is a great series. I read it all earlier this year when I moved to San Francisco. Really helped me get my bearings, and, of course, the characters are just so wonderful.

I didn't finish it either. I found the writing impenetrable. I have a rule for myself that I read at least 50 pages of a book before I give up on it. I was barely able to read 38 pages.

OTOH the movie looks delish! Maybe this'll be one of those rare movies --for me & you, anyway-- that are better than the books.
