Kenyons Minions discussion

Out of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it’s hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty foot wingspan.

Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded.

But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames.

It's finally here!!! Here's a few discussion questions to kick us off with:

1. What do you think will be the first thing Max does once he leaves Sanctuary?

2. Think we will see more of our fine feathered bird friends again in this installment of the Dragon arc?

3. Or more importantly any more juicy revelations about/from Thorn?

4. Any speculations if we learn anything more about Kessar's plans?

5. Anybody have a feeling that the Dragon Queen is going to be like another Kerryna? Locked away and misunderstood?

6. Also do you think we will see any familiar connections between Seraphina and other characters we know?

Ohhhh boy ... darn it, I've already read the book, so I guess I'll be skipping these questions. XD

I'll just say for now that I loved the book, and there was a LOT of information in this one. =D

It was a pretty good book, quite a few characters reared their heads in this one.

Did you see the vid I posted of the signing Sherri did a couple weeks ago a few days before Comic Con? She said he has been there all along and nothing is being changed exactly by the "new" story line. It has all been there. I am rereading DH and maybe a line here or there have popped out interestingly. Not sire if they mean anything, but I am looking for him.
That scene! literally made me tear a little. And Max's words in regard to him... My hope is bubbling over!

And what of that scene to save the destroyer??? Interesting interaction. Makes my 'ship very happy. I will be looking closer at the earlier interactions as I keep rereading.

I've got a copy from my library, but I've got other books I need/want to read first.

Been such a crazy 6 days that hardly a book's been touched and the craziness won't end until sat afternoon.

Oh man that is crazy Myst. But I'm rooting for ya as always. And quite frankly I'm still waiting on one of my cozy mystery books as well come to think of it. Not sure what is going on with the ILL system lately but they are running slow as molasses lately. :(

22 of July we went on vacation to a cousin's wedding out of the country. Basically walked 3-15 miles every day. Returned on the 30th.

Then I got roped into last minute helping of planning for baby shower (this sat), and I've got relatives coming into town tomorrow.

Meanwhile our dvr died while on vacation and power went out just before repair guy arrived on mon, reschedule for tues. Today was last minute shopping for guests/baby shower. Tomorrow morning I need to bake home made chex mix for baby shower (and family).

And we still need to get fixings to turn croissants into sandwiches.

So at least baby shower stuff is basically done (assuming I remember to take it all on sat), I don't need to cook for a few days, and dvr is fixed.

Now if only I had time to actually read a book.

Sweet lordy Myst. Well I guess to say the least at least you got all kinds of exercise for that wedding and in part know how to plan a pretty good baby shower. Sorry to hear your DVR and power died though too. :( But eventually things will die down and can get back to some quality page turning hopefully. :)

Sat afternoon and sunday I plan to pick up mcdonalds or something that doesn't require cooking, sit on my butt, stitch and/or read.

Sounds like a winner to me Myst. It's more house cleaning and such for me and the rest of the fam this weekend. Have to dig out my slacks and stuff for work too give them a freshen up as well.

Oh yeah, I saw that for sure! =) And I definitely remember her saying that Ambrose has been there all along in the shadows. And you're right, when re-reading the books, there has been an occasional line here and there that just sort of popped out. =)

And I agree, that scene does give hope. =) And here, I'm gonna post a spoiler: (view spoiler)[does anyone else find it interesting that 1) the scene of Olympus being destroyed seems awfully similar to Nick's vision at the start of Instinct?, and that 2) Aeron was out and fighting alongside Thorn and Cadegan? Both of those instances seem to me like more evidence that the CON timeline has affected the DH timeline. ;) If that makes any sense. Not to mention that bit about Nick seeming to have control of his Malachai form. (hide spoiler)]

I also watched the interview done by the Google Read for Pixels project, and SK did state that she will not tear apart any families already created. (So ... yes, Maggie and Wren will still end up together. ;D)

Plus, on the "ask the author" page, someone asked SK about history being rewritten as Ambrose goes back in time, and she responded by asking if history was really being rewritten, or was it merely being rearranged? I found that QUITE interesting. =)

Lastly, that bit about Apollymi needing saved .... Ohhhhh yeah. XD And I'll leave it at that. ;)

Does Sav step in to help out with the saving?!?! If he does that is very telling?!?! And not just for Chthonian reasons either. *wink* *wink*

hello everyone! it's been a very long while since i've posted in the forums (life got in the way, and all that) but i just really need to vent out. this installment has been super nice because it gave many beloved characters screen time(?)/mentions. And props to SK for keeping the world building as rich as ever. One would think,"yeah, i've been reading this series for awhile now and i know everything" then BooM! plot twist/new development!

But by far the scene that made my heart, my shipper heart, skip was when a certain Chthonian went to Kalosis to save the Goddess of Destruction. (view spoiler)[ She freakin' eradicate existence. why would she need saving? Ah yes because SAV was truly concerned for her well being. ;) and when she asked for help to cure the plague/illness sweeping through kalosis: "For her, there was nothing he wouldn't do." OMG, i can't even type the words to explain how much that scene made me happy.

LOL, you're right, SK is a master at writing major plot twists. Even when we think we've got most of it figured out, there's always a whopper that surprises the heck out of us. XD

And you're not the only one who was intrigued by that little "rescue mission" into Kalosis. There were some VERY interesting developments there. ;)

Aside from that, though, I loved the book for the backstory we got in this one. And I do love me some serious backstory. ;)

I'm only about 1/2 through, but I'm having trouble figuring out which of Max's siblings are "full" or half and by which parent half. Implication is all by a common mother currently.

There appear to be 2-3 species for brothers. Max, the guy from Avalon, and ???

And "good" news, baby shower wasn't yesterday, it's this upcoming sat. So I'm ready except I need to make a new snack as the snack I made isn't freezable and it will be stale by shower time as I made it thurs when I was totally mixed up on shower date.

Since I'm current on CON my Malachai revelation was something totally different. (view spoiler)[It's Sav being involved somehow in the first Malachai's death. That's what I didn't see coming and made me go WHOA! No wonder Apollymi hates him. We all know how she is about her children. And no wonder he feels so beholden to her. (hide spoiler)]

What I'm still confused about, though, is all of the merging to create the Were-Hunters. If Illy was merged with someone else, how is Illy still Illy and the other person existed too? That's what I can't figure out.

Didn't they take a dragon and an apollite and switch hearts? So neither being died, they were just mutated.

So spoilers below about my thoughts on dragonbane tidbits.

-Max hasn't seen Sera in about 3k years, yet her kids sound like fairly young beings. Were they turned to stone about 15 years after Max left?

-Who are Max's mom and dad? Mom is a demon of some variety, his dad was a god who was married to another goddess.

-How about the revelation that Savitar is part demon? (pg 295)

-What did Sav fail to do regarding Apollymi? "I will never fail you again." (pg 327) (hide spoiler)]

Max's dad and Sav: (view spoiler)[Arel. Not sure who he is in the grand scheme of things, though.

Sav's failure, to me, appears to be wrapped up in the death of the first Malachai when Apollymi was still Braith. And all of that is wrapped up in why Jaden and Jared are enslaved to Noir. (hide spoiler)]

Okay, more spoiler thoughts:
(view spoiler)[Yeah, somehow Sav is involved with the Malachai line, I'm pretty sure of that. I don't know when Monakribos died, so I can't say if Savitar was involved with his death or not. But given that Sav was born 30 years after the Chthonian war started (Sav is only 14,000 years old, lol), either Monakribos lived a VERY long time, or else this is the time-travel incident that Savitar mentioned to Ambrose back in ... Invincible, I believe. I'm inclined to believe that time-travel of some sort was involved, given that the Time Stone that appeared in Time Untime, was Lemurian in origin. And Savitar is originally from Lemuria. Coincidence? I think not. ;)

I'm not entirely convinced that Sav is part demon. Yeah, Max referred to him as the demon Chthonian, but someone asked Carl about that on FB, and he stated that it meant that Sav was the Chthonian for demons. So ... the jury is still out on that one, but I'm personally thinking not, at this point in time.

The kids: That sounds about right, about them turning to stone some years after Max left, though I'm inclined to think it was closer to 30 years since Weres age more slowly. But I'd have to skim over the book again to give a more positive answer. (hide spoiler)]

On Illy ... I don't think it was ever fully explained (other than black magick was used) how the souls were merged to form two beings. I want to say that while the souls themselves were merged, the hearts (and bodies) remained separate and intact, and the merged soul then split again into two blended souls. But that's just a guess on my part.

Not looking at anything too much in this thread at the moment other than to say I got my copy and finished the first 5 chapters and LOVE it!!!! Must needs to own a copy. Hell Max is definitely a lot more interesting than I thought he was.

Okay so I finished it today and have to say wowza what a doozie.

My thoughts:

-Great seeing everyone especially (view spoiler)[ a spreggars Aimee, and glad everyone is open to making a few jokes on what she will have lol (hide spoiler)].

-Definitely seeing Sav and Apollymi. Can't tell me there isn't something more to that story! I mean the clues are there. If someone can't stand you they would give diddly squat what you are wearing. And again Apollmi goes out her way to point something personal like that out about Savvy boy. And even he has his own feelings of not failing her again...

-All I can say is thank goodness Max's mom was a demon of some sort and their morals are different. Cause after a while I was like this skank has tapped all kinds of ass and got kids all over the world!

-Going back to Sav (view spoiler)[I thought they said he was the Demon Chthonian because. He gave protection and had charge over them? (hide spoiler)] Which I think that explains some things about how he took to Simi as a baby so quickly and had no trouble with her really. He already had experience before then.

-As for the Malachai reveal best I could figure was that Nick was not only willing to befriend Artie but also defend her lineage. Control over his abilities was already established I think since Ash had asked Sav to help train him on his island. But more so(view spoiler)[ is the fact that Sav was a part of the first Malachai's death for sure. Could be because he didn't side in favor in helping him or what is my guess (hide spoiler)].

-And yea Max's kids did read kind of young. But that makes sense given that SK has said that even at our human ages of 30ish or so, the were-hunters consider them little babies that have barely lived and should be so sheltered and the like. Although I was kind of confused about something(view spoiler)[ since the kids and Sera were all turned to stone too likely around the same time with their queen(I believe is the right term), why was it that the queen was turning before the rest of them? (hide spoiler)] That seemed a little odd to me.

-Was not loving the self-deprecating humor in this particular story. Everyone seemed so apologetically themselves for some reason. I mean I get some characters are a bit silly, or do their own thing, but I didn't like all the apologizing for being them.

-As for the Max, Illy, and the magical merging with the King's sons things. I agree about the black magic part of things. But I had another speculation about ol' Dagon. (view spoiler)[Since they now know about Apollymi having her hand in hiding Ash in the human queen's womb and tying their life forces together. Is it possible that Dagon is in some way related to Apollmi or the chaos regimen that created the Charonte demons(cause remember Apollymi sent Simi's mom after the niece to ensure that she didn't screw things up with her plan. And we still aren't 100% sure or not if the niece was able to actually link their life forces or not. And if she wasn't, did Simi's mom have a hand in using some of that black magic to tie their life forces) (hide spoiler)]?

I say that also because towards the end (view spoiler)[when Max had died and his bro Falcyn brought him back and it was revealed that he was part Charonte demon too. And he did some sort of magic where he was drained of color and yet was able to bring Max back to life with the aid of Sera breathing air into his mouth too. So maybe that is also another hint to go along with Apollmi saying that Ash's dad had abilities that helped to create life even..... (hide spoiler)]

But getting back to the point about the merging the souls and what not.(view spoiler)[ I feel that the black magic makes a cloned version of the person that is being merged with the animal or a sort. Cause I know it said earlier on that when they first tried to merge Max with someone. He watched as his "twin" died in front of him or something as the magic didn't work. So combining their blood and some chicken feet(aren't they always used in black magic? lol) and a bit of smushing the spirit together could be how it works. I think too how it came about with how Ash wear's Styxx face but in no way are they actually related either (hide spoiler)].

Oh and one more thing about Max.(view spoiler)[ I had thought we were told exactly who he is? He is a born and bred of sorts guardian for that special bowl and something else. Also did any one catch the fact that his dad was an Arel? As in an Arel from the CON books. Maybe an Arel that has been watching over things in the present and might be working with Nekoda.... (hide spoiler)]

DH, where did it say that Max (or Falcyn) was part charonte? We know Max is part Lilit demon due to his mother, so Illarion, Falcyn, Blaise, and Hadyn are all part Lilit demon too. I figured Falcyn was doing some sort of secret dragon (Lilit demon?) magic.

I'm going to have to look back through. Could have been through one of the memories or when Falcyn was either healing Sera or Max. But I do remember thinking that he could have been a possibility as a possible mate for Simi. Cause there was a part that said something about Charonte and full blooded. And I think Max had been talking about Falcyn, cause he was talking about it or one of the other two brothers, and a glare from Fal had them quieting down about it.

Also I was thinking that maybe the person that Max's human form takes after could possibly be the King's third son too. And he also would have been a very key player for the Primal Gods.

Ok, so I went back through and found on the early part of chapter 19 after the trip down memory lane with the omegerion council and the dragons. And it was right after Fall said that Max should have eat ten the wolves. Fury jumps in taking offense. Fall fires back about he has offended others and should add a baby to the list. Blaise pops in(which is where I got the Charonte part of things from), to say that Fal is part Charonte and has his own BBQ sauce, etc. Max says he(Fal) Isn't Charonte but is just irritable like Sav. But I call foul on that one. As it was already mentioned what a soft spot Fal has for Blaise. So I think they have a closer connection, like Max with Illy. So my guess is Blaise knows what species I suppose Fal's daddy really is. And also we have already learned their mom was down with the powerful dads(war god, Arel, leader of the mandrakes), why not a Charonte too? And as he is far older than even Max. And Charontes been around since Atlantis was up or longer...

Sorry to double post(on my mom's tablet and fear writing over something I just wrote if in the same post. As it's so touch sensitive). Wanted to add to that shortly after Blaise saying the Charonte thing. Fal gave him a particular look. And it said that Blaise knew not to say any more. Not out of fear but out of good sense. And there was mention before that particular dragons don't like their secrets exposed. So add to that and the fact Blaise has no reason to lie about something like that...me thinks there is at the very least a part Charonte dragon in thee house!!!!

Yeah, that would be interesting if Falcyn is indeed part Charonte. I'm inclined to think so, even if Max denied it. XD (But we'll find out for sure in a couple of years, since Falcyn gets a book after Illarion. =D)

About a certain Sav tidbit: (view spoiler)[I know that Max refers to him as the "demon Chthonian", but as I mentioned before, according to Carl on FB (See, I just KNEW that someone would ask at some point! XD), Sav is simply the Chthonian for demons, apparently. (hide spoiler)]

If I remember correctly, Max's human counterpart was indeed a son of the King, but born of a slave. Eumon, though, considered him a brother.

Dagon: (view spoiler)[ I guess one could say that he's Apollymi's nephew, since his father is none other than Noir and the Primals consider themselves brothers and sisters. Yep, he's the very same Dagon we saw in Instinct. =) (hide spoiler)]

On the Amazon queen: (view spoiler)[ Truthfully, I'm not sure why she started turning to stone faster than Sera. I'd have to do another re-read to see if I can garner any clues there. (hide spoiler)]

Max: (view spoiler)[ Oh yeah, definitely caught the bit about him being part Arel. And it IS likely that we've met said Arel already, in CON. And as for that special bowl ... due to the French name that was used, I'm thinking that's none other than the Holy Grail! Which would explain why this book ties in with the Lords of Avalon. =) (hide spoiler)]

And one last thing, about a certain tablet mentioned: (view spoiler)[ This Emerald Tablet that was mentioned ... I could be wrong, y'all, but since it was mentioned that the Emerald Tablet was placed around Apollo's neck at some point, I'm thinking that this is none other than the infamous Eye of Verlyn, the jade necklace that keeps popping up in the series. So apparently it can do more than just drain a god's powers ... and the plot thickens even futher! (hide spoiler)]

I think you're right about the treasures! I forgot to make that LOA connection. Hopeful that this could mean after the dragons we could get a certain enslaved character's story that all of us are dying to read. Too much is being revealed that a book is needed to connect it all soon.

I was shocked by the in control fully charged protective someone... I am so proud.. it was beautiful :)

Too many questions!! I need to get back to my rerread. It is so easy to miss all the hints. I totally forgot all the Verlyn details. You all are on it!

Am I wrong in thinking we only have 5 more "unrevealed" stories till Ambrose's? After CON ends we get his story and then it's the end?? Next yr we get CON #7 and there are 14 total, so we have 8 more DH (the last being Ambrose)..and we know the next two are Illy and Fal, so 5 between them. That doesn't seem like enough to tie everything up.

And let's not forget, URIAN is following Fal!!!! =D =D =D

Yea, I think for the present Nick things are settling in. Although Ash was still cautious around him though in the fight. But it is good that everyone is big boys and realize when there is something bigger going on than your beef between you and your ex friend, happily stick it in your back pocket!

I am not 100 on how many books are left but with one DH and one CON a yr and if the last CON comes before Ambrose's DH book (and that book marking the end of the series..??) It's my guess. But the AG can always change it up on us :)
Darn I should have asked when I had her all to myself. I didn't think about it then :/
If she comes back my way next year I am going to be last in line again, just to ask ;) and I will for sure ask about URI if we don't get a confirmation b4 then. I always thought his book would be 3rd to last (last being Ambrose, 2nd to last being Sav), to give his wife some time to age to at least 18 (my theory is she is reincarnated in one of the kids) but I have a feeling we will be jumping forward in yrs maybe even centuries soon (to Kody's time).
