I have hyperthyroidism which is the opposite . Extreme weight loss. It is very difficult to regulate . It is vital to have levels checked .
my son has that. He is very thin and always cold. He struggles and has to keep an eye on his levels too. Do they tell you any health tips to keep you healthy?
Supplements high in calories and nutrients . Strength training is very important because of the loss of muscle . I am in the process of seeing a nutritionist and trainer . I am still underweight . But hyper can turn to hypo . It is a very frustrating illness. So many people who are diagnosed with depression are not depressed . ( feeling low, and depressed is another symptom of hypo . In hyper I found myself very irritable (which is out of character for me . I knew something was not right . Plus I was actually eating more than ever . But the weight kept getting to a dangerous level. It also does havoc on sleep . Hyper totally messes with sleep cycle . And sleep is important . More woman than men are diagnosed with thyroid illness . Most woman experience it after giving birth . This was not is my case . I also read that a genetic component is seen in most. My grandmother suffered from hyper . As have many of my aunts on my paternal side . Most have had the thyroid removed totally or partial .
It is complicated for sure. My daughter and sister have hypo and my son has hyper. So I get tested because my levels are a little high, but not high enough to medicate they said. So we shall see.

I did not know about the hair loss. Being medicated has fixed that?

Yes a common medication is snythroid or levothyroxine.
Check with your Doctor to see what kind of blood test he or she is ordering . Some do not check the tsh levels . And it could result in a negative result.

That is a lot to bare. I also suffer from a couple auto amune disorders. They are so frustrating to keep under control.
