Coming this Fall...

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) This should be an excellent year for TV shows, thankfully they're making more paranormal and superhero themed ones.

Jeff | 425 comments just to let you all know I have the first episode pilot for Constantine from NBC. watched the first few minutes and its awesome.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Can't wait!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) The premiere was promising. Dark, a little humor, a few leads to interesting storylines, a pre-existing backstory. I haven't read the stories so not sure how faithful this adaption is.

Jim (jkmfilms) I enjoyed it - it was a bit more religious than I expected. But then, like you, Erin, I haven't followed the comics, so I don't know how much is taken from there.

I like the humor - "Master of the Dark Arts?" "I'm getting new cards printed..."

Jeff | 425 comments Its very much in line with the comics. That's the good part. Though the angel that talks to him is not from the comic and created for the show.
In the Hellblazer series, there is always a coming apocalypse. There will be a lot to draw on from the DC heroes as well since just about every one of them has had an appearance in his stories.
If it reaches a second season, and I hope it does since NBC requested a full season worth of scripts, we will probably see Deadman show up unless they do it this season.
There is talk of Swamp thing, but too early to tell. and as I have mentioned to Erin, the talk of a Dr. Fate spin off show. Yesss!!!!

message 8: by Jim (new)

Jim (jkmfilms) That makes sense - I saw the (view spoiler) in the first episode!

Yeah I chuckled at that too, as well as the strange angel character.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Jim wrote: "That makes sense - I saw the [spoilers removed] in the first episode!"

Yeah I saw that as well and wondered about it.

With the other DC shows I watch, I at least have seen the characters in other formats and know something about them. Constantine is a first for me where everything will be new, a surprise of sorts.

Jeff | 425 comments There is a lot to the story of Constantine. He even crossed over into a Sandman comic once. Oh and there is going to be a Sandman movie, just not under the DC universe banner but under DC's Vertigo line, which is also setting up its own universe in movie form.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'm a few episodes behind on this show, and need to catch up. It's not bad but I'm not in love with it yet.

Unfortunately the ratings aren't doing too well, so not sure if it's going to make it.

Jeff | 425 comments There is a huge grass roots thing going on about getting it to a second season. I mean Agents of Shield season one was ok but ABC gave it the second chance season and its been running wild and crazy ever since. Very good and entertaining and leading into the movies.
There is no reason why NBC cant do the same thing. They seem to keep the sophomoric comedies on which I think is a waste of time. Sure the rating for them might be good, but they forget about the people that want to see something better than just putting your brain on a slab in front of the tv while these shows play.
That is a bit severe sounding, but over the years, its the way that it just seems to play out.
No reflection of course on present company just in case. lol
Its just my rant. you know that.:)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I agree with you, Jeff, some of modern TV is appaling. Variety is a good thing.

Unless a show is doing atricious, it would be nice if a network would give it at least a two season chance. We shall see.

Jeff | 425 comments I subscribe to several sights that keeps watch on how a show is doing and there are a lot of people signing up for either petitions or voicing their opinions on keeping Constantine on the air.

Let's hope so - it's a show needs to spread its wings for a bit before really taking off, I think.

message 18: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 425 comments Actually if you haven't caught up yet, its been following a few comic book story lines of its own and the mid season ended on a good cliff hanger.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'm still not addicted to this show like others, but I did think this week's was maybe the best yet. Very surreal stuff and liked the storyline of this weird episode.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Constantine did not make Press release of renewed shows

Not necessarily meaning it will be cancelled as a guarantee, but the possibility is there.

Jeff | 425 comments It was good seeing the Black Diamond thing brought in. For any of you that don't know what it really is, The Black Diamond was a crystal that brought forward the 60's villain Eclipso. Eclipso was a normal scientist came into contact with the Black Diamond, It was imbedded in him. and when ever there is a eclipse any where it affects him and brings about a chance to bring out an evil character called Eclipso. He looks for all the pieces of the bigger Black Diamond which would give him complete control over the body he possesses. As well as give him ultimate power.
While they didn't actually bring that character in they did hint at it and gave some of the older fans a real treat with the Black Diamond.

Jeff | 425 comments NBC has hinted that They may ship Constantine over to SyFy channel. They still didn't want it to go away and yet after seeing what a rabid fan base it has, is in the deciding mode of letting it had a second season on a cable station where the ratings are meant to be as high as on network TV.
They say that if it goes over to the cable station it would keep the same cast and writers, where it can take on a darker side as well as explore more of what the storylines in the comic has. The final part is the name would change from Constantine to Hellblazer.
I want to jump for joy, but its not a given. Yet, I have high hopes since NBC has at least bothered to mention it. We can only hope.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Officially gone from the network. Are they officially moving to SyFy?

I was getting more into the show but could live without it. Out of the 2014 fall season, I found this one the disappointing turnout, but it was still enjoyable enough to be watchable.

At least there's not a massive cliffhanger...

message 24: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 425 comments I actually loved it a lot more than Supernatural to tell the truth. And Supernatural actually got its start because of the creators reading Hellblazer from so many years ago.
The official word is that NBC will make its decision on Constantine in May.
For me, it means that they have hope for it and are trying to find a place for it. Other wise it would have been canceled right away.

I am hoping that it will end up on Sci-fi channel. It really would give them carte blanch to do the show they way it needs to be done instead of having to follow regular broadcast rules guidelines.
I just cant fathom how NBC and other networks leave some of the lamest sitcoms ever on year after year but a good quality show comes along and they throw it by the wayside.

I hope they Keep it cause my son Hunter loves it and he doesn't like too many of the things I like. He does love The Flash though and Scorpion.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) My mom tried it but said she didn't want to continue it because she doesn't like the main actor. I'm not familiar with him so I didn't have that prejudice going in. He doesn't bother me as an actor so far, the story to me seems a little directionless but I do enjoy it.

message 26: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 425 comments He is totally John Constantine. He is perfect for the role Erin. Im sure your mom has her reasons for not liking him. The truth of the matter is, that character is not to be liked. After reading a lot of the Hellblazer comics, the writers have made him be this magical con artist and exorcist. HE uses people to get the things that need to be done. He does suffer for it by being inthe accompaniment of the ghosts that he caused their deaths by one way or another. HE wants to do good but.... The actor they have for him is perfect. righto out of the comics. that's just to tell you how close they have it. You should try reading some of the Hellblazer comics Erin they are very good. DC's Vertigo line, like Sandman.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) She said something about the actor being melodramatic on something else she saw him in. I personally thought he fit the role fine, so didn't find an issue with that. To be fair, she didn't give the show much of a chance, only watching the first episode.

I always meant to get into the Hellblazer comics. Another thing on the "one day" list.

message 28: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 425 comments oh well that's does explain it. Im not ragging on her :) I am passionate about the show though and his character.
I know that if they go into another season they plan on bringing in part of the justice league dark which could bring in swamp thing who he is tied too closely.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Not Canceled yet, but may be a long shot for season 2:

Jeff | 425 comments :( yeah I know still there is always hope that the showrunners will shop it to Netflix

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Constantine has been officially cancelled. Fans are taking to twitter and beyond to protest. Stephen Amill from Arrow said he would guest star if they renew it.

Who knows if it will be picked up by anyone else, hopefully.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I just saw this from DC Comic News that the show is officially over. A shame.

Some people are thinking they are gauging interest before investing in the actual show. We'll see though.
