Hi - looking for recommendations for scary or thriller style books appropriate for an 11 year old. Doesn't need to be middle grade style either - can be an adult pop fiction as long as there isn't anything badly inappropriate for the age.

Have they already read any Lois Duncan's novels? If not, I'd start there. Although they might be more suspense than thriller. I would recommend I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER? (The movie is totally different from the book).

Try the Lockwood & Co. series by Jonathan Stroud. Some of my students like the books by Mary Downing Hahn also.

I saw this at my son's book fair last month and thought it looked interesting:
The Gathering by Dan Poblocki.I enjoyed A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
My daughter loved the Goosebumps books by R.L. Stine and a A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
Are the books for a girl or a boy?

There is no inappropriate content for children, but there are some dark parts, so it is more appropriate for those above 12.
