I'm currently reading The Winter People as part of the LOHF Readalong. I'm halfway through. It's creepy, and I have a lot of questions that need answers!

I'm only on chapter three but so far, so very good! What are you all reading?"
I really enjoyed Teeth. It is such a different type of vampire story.
I am reading This House of Wounds by Georgina Bruce and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

Recently I’ve read Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver, which was a delicious East Midlands gothic maybe-demons-maybe-witches story that I gobbled up in one day. Would thoroughly recommend it and her other works, Dark Matter and Thin Air.

The 21st the next installment will be up.

This House of Wounds sounds amazing, can't wait to read it.

Ooh, I can't wait to hear about Maria. I grabbed a copy when she was having her Kindle sale. I'm hoping to check it out this summer.
Tracy wrote: "I’m starting Maria the Wanted by V Castro and catching up on The Winter People."That book looks amazing.
Oh, Brother is a good one. I didn't realize her new one was releasing so quickly! We need to get it added over on the LOHF site.
Jen (Book Den) wrote: "Oh, Brother is a good one. I didn't realize her new one was releasing so quickly! We need to get it added over on the LOHF site."It's not up on Amazon yet and no blurb. I want all the info. now. *cries*
I just finished this one: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
I only gave it three stars as I have seen the movie so many times that it kind of ruined it for me by reading the book. I thought it would be more scarier, but there was no scare factor for me. :(
I read The Haunting of Henderson Close by Catherine Cavendish last week and liked it a lot. It had all those classic ghost story vibes.I also read Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman recently but didn't love it. It was okay. I keep trying thrillers but I usually just get so frustrated with the stupid choices made that it kinda ruins it for me. ...Maybe I should stick to ghost/monster stories.
I can't wait for Ania's new book! Very frustrated with the lack of information (at least until tomorrow!). Some other authors I'm looking forward to that have books being released this year are Cherie Priest, J.H. Moncrieff, and (hopefully) Sarah Read.
Tracy wrote: "I’m starting Maria the Wanted by V Castro and catching up on The Winter People."So far I am only about 20 pages in and I'm enjoying it

I read THE WINTER PEOPLE previously, so I'm reading the comments, but can't comment, myself. ;)
Laurie wrote: "Recently I’ve read Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver, which was a delicious East Midlands gothic maybe-demons-maybe-witches story that I gobbled up in one day. Would thoroughly recommend it and her othe..."I had no idea Paver had written a new horror. Thank you!
Lilyn G. | Sci-Fi & Scary wrote: "I am reading In the Shadow of Spindrift House and...and...AND."It sounds amazing. I hope it picks up for you.
Cry Your Way Home by Damien Angelica Walters (short stories), Theme Music by T. Marie Vandelly (horror / thriller blend), and The Poison Thread by Laura Purcell (gothic horror). Recently read Spell on Wheels by Kate Leth, The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons, This House of Wounds by Georgina Bruce, and She's Lost Control edited by Elizabeth Jenike.

I'm going to start this one soon!

I like it so far. It's a different take on the vampire story and there has already been one skin crawlingly nasty scene. Loved it even it if it was completely disgusting!
I've recently re-read J.H. Moncrieff's "GhostWriters" series, and really enjoyed THE BONE WEAVER'S ORCHARD, by Sarah Read.

yeah she's having a bit of trouble but i'm so ready!
I'm currently reading "Stalking Jack the Ripper." About a third of the way through and not quite sure how I feel about it yet... Has anyone else here read it?I recently read The "Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter" and "The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein" and it feels like these three books kind of "go together." I'm loving this wave of gothic-inspired lady horror fiction we seem to be having lately!

I love the SJTR series, but I feel like it has to be taken with a grain of salt — it's definitely more character-driven than plot-driven, IMO, and the first book definitely has some weaknesses where you can tell it was Kerri's debut. That said, I had fun with it and thought books 2 and 3 were incredible! I'm so excited for the finale this September :D I hope you enjoy it as you continue.
Elisa wrote: "I'm currently reading "Stalking Jack the Ripper." About a third of the way through and not quite sure how I feel about it yet... Has anyone else here read it?"I haven't read any of them yet but I love gothic-feely books. Once my schedule clears, I'm going to check them out.
I just finished A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World and while it's a little wordy the payoff was SO GOOD.

That's a good one. Beautiful and terrifying.

Same. I bought it new with a gift card and it still sits atop that sad giant pile. Someday I will get it read. Someday . . .
Tborder wrote: "I just finished Finding Baba Yaga: A Short Novel in VerseOMG I loved it."
i love Baba Yaga stories! i added it to my list. thanks!
Tborder wrote: "I just finished Finding Baba Yaga: A Short Novel in VerseOMG I loved it."
Ahhh, I loved that one!
I just finished The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes claustrophobic, caving nightmare horror stories. It has some really cool sci fi elements and a lesbian element as well. Occasionally the pacing threw me off but overall a stellar debut effort.
