This was a total waste of my time! I hated this book so much I couldn't manage to give it even one star. TRIGGER WARNING: Animal/Pet and Death. UGH!

The low-level gangster who originally attacks Morris and then surreptitiously gives him money on a consistent basis...until he must be hidden away and then Morris is attacked again. (Definitely not a favorite read for me--way too morose! And violent!)

I've come up with a few ideas for 8, but I've read them all. The ones I thought of were (also mentioned by a previous commenter) Chocolat, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (or its sequel), Mathilda, Boy (the autobiography of Roald Dahl in his younger years, you can definitely see where he got some of his ideas from!), and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Just completed #7 (unsure whether hero or villain) - The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. This was everything I wanted and more! Overall, I found this to be a slightly more hopeful book than Handmaid's Tale and gave a bit more of a conclusion. I'm really glad I finished the most recent season of the show before I read this book. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars1/4
