Franklinbadger | 79 comments Count me in! : )

Latasha (latasha513) hi, i'll join in. i added this to my TBR May 12, 2018 -_- i'll start it Thursday.

Franklinbadger | 79 comments Just started the audiobook...

Melanie | 33 comments ...I can already tell I'll be the last to finish..;-P

Latasha (latasha513) well change of plan, i won't be starting til Monday.

Franklinbadger | 79 comments Just finished! Looking forward to discussing when everyone else has had a chance to read.

Kari | 38 comments I read this recently, so I won't re-read but I loved the book and I'll participate in the discussion when it gets underway. :)

Latasha (latasha513) how was it Franklin?

Melanie | 33 comments That was quick Franklin! I'm starting tonight.

Melanie | 33 comments I'm away for a couple days with limited internet but started and enjoying the book. Paver creates a great sense of place, and I can remember my own sense of awe and humility the first time I saw the Himalayas. Truly mind-blowing.

Franklinbadger | 79 comments I enjoyed it! I've read it once before, when it was first published. I think I was a bit disappointed then because it felt a little similar to Paver's previous ghost story, Dark Matter. But I appreciated the atmosphere a lot more this time.

Kari | 38 comments I liked both Dark Matter and Thin Air a lot, but I liked Thin Air a tad more. It was just better plotted out and had a more effective and horrific climax (although I liked Dark Matter's protagonist more than Thin Air's). I really like how Paver does description, which I think is key in a good horror novel to create the right atmosphere. Hers is just right to evoke the terror of their setting without being too much. Plus, she marries two of my favorite genres, historical fiction and horror.

Melanie | 33 comments Chapter 15 (view spoiler)

Latasha (latasha513) i'm up to chapter 14 and i must say, i'm not enjoying it all that much.

Melanie | 33 comments I'm finished. It was good , but I have to admit I didn't like it as much as Dark Matter. (view spoiler) I didn't get as good a sense of dread with this one either.

Kari | 38 comments I really appreciate how in both books, Paver makes a horror out of an already anxious situation. Mountain climbing, endless night. She evokes the terror out of that foreign atmosphere and validates your fears about it by throwing in the monster/ghost you were afraid is there. I just love the unique settings for her ghost stories.

She also makes the most innocuous things scary. That rucksack was nearly a jump scare for me.

Frances (francesperez) Hi everyone. Is the discussion for this book still active?

Frances (francesperez) Oh, so sweet of you all. Will start it ASAP then and get back to you. I'm going to juggle it with a Buddy Read that's starting now for Circe. But that won't be til the 15th. I'm going into this book blind because I like suprises that way. I know it's an expedition on a mountain and it's somewhat like a horror story. I've always enjoyed stories about the Franklin Expedition to find the Northwest Passage. So this will be so interesting.

Frances (francesperez) Hi Latasha. The Terror is my favorite book. It's what got me started actually. My husband, on our blind date, found out that we had that book in common, among other things. If you have any other book recommendations, please send them my way.

Latasha (latasha513) You got it!
