message 14: by Jordyn (new)

Jordyn Hi! I saw a Tik Tok recently about annotating a book and giving it as a gift to someone. My best friend’s 17th birthday is coming up soon and I was wondering if you all had any book recommendations for me to do this with. The only problem is I am not a big reader at all and have no idea where to start!! I was thinking YA Fiction with strong elements/ themes like: life long friendship, teenage dreams, maturity and growing up, loyalty, living life to the fullest, a sister-like relationship, or anything of the sort. We have known each other essentially our entire lives, and next year we will be going into our senior year of high school. I truly do apologize if this is the wrong place to reach out for help, I just didn’t know here else to go or who to ask. I really think she would enjoy this and am so great for for anything you guys have in mind. Thanks!

That sounds amazing! There are many books with themes of friendship. I don't know why, but as I was reading your post, I started thinking about my book, Legal Crime becuase it covers some themes like that xD

It might also encourage your friend to start writing because I'm doing a lot of work to inspire other teenagers to become published authors, as a thirteen-year-old myself :)

message 16: by Maya (new)

Maya Hey Jordyn!! What you’re doing for your friend is amazing! A true way to show your friendship!! For books with a major friendship theme- I can’t stop thinking The Return of the King but that might be because I’m a little biased with Lord of the Rings. But Sam and Frodo’s relationship is probably the strongest out of any characters I’ve read about and what they go through is life binding. I feel like the two towers would also work because a lot of their struggles are included in the second half of it, but the main stuff goes down in the return of the king. And also Merry and Pippin are great friends and have some amazing moments that would be fun to comment on.
I also feel like one of the Harry Potter books would work and you know, everyone knows Harry Potter so I feel like it could be an easy and good choice.
We are also reading little women as a group rn and I’m currently only like 50 pages in but so far the whole story is about the sisters friendship. You may want to ask the group if that would be a good choice though because I wouldn’t really know.

Would it be a place to discuss poetry or write poetry as we already have a poetry discussion topic?

Sure, great idea. I love WYR (I also love Truth or Dare but it's pretty hard to do that here... unless the dare is like 'put this as your profile pic' or something. Worth considering...)!
