I'll totally look into The Hunger as well. Thanks Michael! :)

Obviously: 'Salem's Lot
Afterage is from the early 90's.

I agree with Char on Fevre Dream. Also; try Christopher Buehlman's The Suicide Motor Club.

Also agree with Char, Fevre Dream is fantastic historical vampire novel, and Yvonne Navarro's Afterage is a good one too.
There's also The Light at the End, Night Life, or Sunglasses After Dark very 80's. The vampires don't sparkle in those books, very mean, very 'Near Dark'.

I'd definitely recommend Buehlman, even though he's not an 80's author. He's contemporary and he's fabulous. I highly recommend

This IS very good, with a different kind of vampire.

True, but I wanted to sneak him in for the discussion.... LOL

Salem's Lot and The Queen of the Damned I can get through my library since they're classics/well known. The other newer ones I might be able to get through the library as well. I know though that the older more niche/obscure titles I'll just have to add to my own personal collection (which really isn't too big of a deal).
Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate it.

Kinda feels like the 1980s (or late 70s) when reading it.

I saw Near Dark many years ago and really loved it. Are you looking for movies rather than books? Or both?
For books I agree with everyone recommending Fevre Dream, also
the original Dracula by Bram Stoker
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
and some of Rice's companion stories like The Vampire Armand, Pandora and Merrick.
For movies if you haven't seen The Lost Boys, you must!
Also the 1931 version of Dracula with Bela Lugosi, Dracula, Prince of Darkness with Christopher Lee and if you like Horror Comedy B-movies, there's an indie on Amazon Video called The Old Blood: Flamel's Legacy starring Sam Terry that's good for a laugh.

I've read it again this summer and it aged much well.
Sadly its sequel Night Life was just not as good, such a shame.

" I love Near Dark and I love the Lost Boys. So I'm looking for books that either have the same feel as those movies or vampire novels that were released in the 80s."
This is WAY late, but in case you're still being notified,
Almost exactly the feel of the movie "Near Dark" is Poppy Z. Brite's Lost Souls. Road-tripping vampires heading to New Orleans on the goth side.

And right along the feel/idea of the 80s horror movie (and not far off "Lost Boys") is John Skipp and Craig Spector's first novel, The Light at the End. Roller-skate/bike couriers in New York in the early 80s take on a fledgling vampire douchebag. It's dark, fast-paced, and deadly. Also my favourite vampire novel.

I saw others mentioned The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned & Tale of the Body Thief feel very 80's.
I'm thinking about this. I've read a lot of vampire books. I'll probably think of more.
