Here is our thread for Child of Light

Terry Brooks is one of my favorite authors, so I have started it yesterday. I'm currently at chapter 15.

Chapter 1-15

I like the book so far. The world building is good. (view spoiler)[
It is different from the Shannara series, but has some of the same elements like magic and fae.

At first it felt like an dystopian world. With the goblins taking over and the humans in prison. But later we found out the gouvernment even provided the goblins with human children. The thought is horrible. Why would anyone even allow that? I don't really see what the humans have to gain from this.

I liked the start of the book. Even though it is horrible that Auris' friends were killed during their escape. I think it must have been her magic that protected her and made her survive. She hardly had any injuries. She used one of the golin's weapons. Do you think she has used the weapons before or is it instinct with help of her inish? They later seem to suggest it is muscle memory. So maybe she really did train with weapons as a kid.

The pull of where to go must have been her inish as well. But I am not sure if it was the place where the fae live that called her or that it was Harrow.

I went in blind into this book, but since I have read all his books I was not surprised that Auris was fae. I am puzzled by her appearance though. She has got old memories about having a green skin. Was it the injections she received that locked her magic abbilities and changed her appearance? I think it is, because I can't think of another reason.

I was wondering where she came from. When they said Harrow's mom had been captured by humans I thought maybe Auris was her daughter too. But since she was pregnant with Harrow at that time that couldn't be possible unless someone is lying about the father.
I do think Harrow's mother knows Dennis from when she was captured by the humans. I bet there is a story there.

I like that Auris is going to rescue Harrow. I am sure she will be able to get him out of it and hopefully explore the possible romance (hide spoiler)]

I already finished it. I always seem to fly through one of Terry Brooks' books.

(view spoiler)[Harrow's mother keeps lying. I guessed right that she was the biological mother of Auris, but since there were so many lies I was unable to figure out everything.

I thought it was a bit odd that Auris said it was her inish that made her look into what happened to her father and mother. What does her magic have to do with it? Yet I do understand the need to know more.

It was to be expected she was captured when trying to rescue Harlow, but I hadn't thought of the tracking device. Though it sounds like it will no probably do no harm anymore.

The trap with the wormwhole was risky. I knew only Auris and Harrow would survive.

I didn't like that the romance was an instant romance, yet they seems to be good for eachother. Why do you think Auris was changing at the end of the book?

I like that this was a standalone. I wonder what the next book will be about. (hide spoiler)]

Sorry for finishing it so quickly. Today was my day off from work so I had a lot of time to read.

I totally agree with you how come a government even provided the goblins with human children ?

Sure, that would be fun. I love buddy reads. Maybe we have some of the same books on our TBR list, but no time to check now because I have to go to work.
