17 - A Book Becoming a TV Series or Movie in 2022
I got burned on this one the last time, so I'll wait to choose until whatever I want to read has actually come out as a TV show or movie
I posted this on the BookTok thread but these books that are being adapted will often blow up on social media.
I deeply appreciate all of these lists 1) because I don't watch TV and never know what's coming out ever and 2) because through them I learned I get to watch not one but TWO adaptations of Persuasion next year and now I'm excited!!
My historically favorite book is being adapted again this year, starring one of my favorite actors. They recently released a trailer and they have RUINED it, adapted the daylights out of it. Thrown the book out of the window. Of course I will watch it immediately and love it while also screaming in my head that THERE IS NO HOT AIR BALLOON in Around the World in Eighty Days, among other things. Sigh.

They're doing ANOTHER remake of that? How can anything surpass the greatness of Jackie Chan????? (Answer: they can't. No one can surpass Jackie Chan.)

If anyone can surpass the charming Jackie Chan in a movie, it may be the charming David Tennant in a series. David is playing Fogg, and instead of being a stick in the mud who does nothing but play whist, he's running around being chatty. Fixx is now a female journalist traveling with him instead of a detective chasing him. I mean, they could have at least called her Nellie. Nellie Bly actually DID go around the world, and in only 72 days! But here's the thing. I love to watch few things more than David Tennant running around being chatty and charming, with foppy hair and a waistcoat.
The two halves of my brain are either going to come together and decide one way or the other, or my head is going to explode.

LOTS of these movies were supposed to be released already but were delayed due to pandemic lockdown. I personally will wait to see what really opens then pick my read.
I don't know how much of the series the Heartstopper adaptation will cover but I'll probably just use Heartstopper: Volume Five for this.

He does look charming in that trailer!

The first Jack Reacher book (Killing Floor) will work. New series starts in Feb. https://ew.com/tv/reacher-first-look-...
Also Sarah Dessen's Along For the Ride wrapped up filming in August so hopefully it will come out next year.
I heard that Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI is coming out in 2022, so I'm going to read that. whether it does or not. haha. with the pandemic it seems like there's no telling what gets released when scheduled or not.

I must have read it 6 times since I was young. Can't wait for the movie even if it's not a copy-paste of the book.

WOW it's been a while since I read that book, I guess, because I don't remember a lot of that!! I don't have HBOMax, either, so I won't be watching it any time soon.

Popsugar had a list that said there is a live action Peter Pan coming, and also an adaptation of She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement by Jodi Kantor, about the women who brought down Harvey Weinstein, which I do want to read at some point, but likely a heavy read

Apparently everyone loves the concept of travelling round the world in a balloon!

It really does, and honestly I wanted to love the book so, so much more than I actually did, so maybe it will change my mind.
We have virtual events too or it premieres on tv too that authors go to an interview! We had called it a Free virtual event where authors can discuss their books! This Friday, I'm going to watch a free virtual event in my local book store where a conversation with bestselling YA author Kathleen Glasgow, the creator of 'Girl In Pieces', 'You'd Be Home Now, and 'How to Make Friends with the Dark'! It premieres on December 10, 2021 (Friday), at 6 PM:D I am so excited:)

Fogg's entire point was ANYONE could do it by buying tickets on scheduled, commercial travel and specifically NOT by hiring anything special.
You know, thinking about it now, I'd LOVE an adaptation of The Twenty-One Balloons! Who do we talk to about that?

It was fascinating seeing how a story comes to light.
Crystal wrote: "I heard that Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI is coming out in 2022, so I'm going to read that. whether it does or not. haha. with the pandemic..."I'm reading this one as well. It was originally scheduled to have come out this year in 2021 but it got pushed back. Now it seems highly likely that it will be released next year.
Ava DuVernay's Filmworks is making a Netflix series from the Wings of Fire books, likely debuting in 2022. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/04/21...
Just saw a trailer for this yesterday- Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile" is getting a movie adaptation in February 2022!
Michael Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer books are set to be launched as a series on Netflix this Summer. They have just finished filming series one. I hope it’s as good as Amazon’s adaption of Bosch!
Station Eleven already has a few episodes out, so depending on how strict you want to be it may not count.
Liza wrote: "Station Eleven already has a few episodes out, so depending on how strict you want to be it may not count."I actually considered this at the beginning but then I figured since it was an end of the year (2021) series and I read the book this past week before 2022 it made sense to leave it out.
*****
While I'm open to Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI at the same time I'm still on the fence about that one.
Hoping to see if there are others out there that I would like.
Station Eleven by Emily St. John MandelAround the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Would Station Eleven really count for this one? The series was released in December 2021.

It's on the Listopia.
LOL Never trust the Listopia!!! People add all sorts of crazy books to them that don't always fit.
I mean, it's up to each reader if you want to count a series that started in 2021. But just because it's on the Listopia doesn't mean it works.

This I know but I wasn't sure about Station 11.
I will search for something else.
I'm currently reading The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn for this prompt. The second season of Bridgerton will be out on March 25th.

I kind of agree here.
Personally, I usually go to amazon and search there since they usually have relevant release dates.
thanks for sharing Mel!!!! I'm adding Pachinko, Conversations with Friends and Death on the Nile as options. :)
George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood is being turned into a television series this year. Jane Austen's Persuasion is also being made into a Netflix movie.
I am planning to read Persuasion. I loved Autumn De Wild's adaptation of Emma from 2020, and I guess I'm hoping for something of similar caliber from Netflix.

But it looks like there are A LOT of books being made into movies & shows in 2022!!! I'll have to choose between some of my favorite authors: Deep Water by Patricia Highsmith or The Stars at Noon by Denis Johnson. Or maybe I'll finally pick up Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
