This category makes me laugh, because we've seen it so many times, some of us have a kneejerk reaction.

But it looks like there are A LOT of books being made into movies & shows in 2022!!! I'll have to choose between some of my favorite authors: Deep Water by Patricia Highsmith or The Stars at Noon by Denis Johnson. Or maybe I'll finally pick up Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

Here are a crazy number of links to articles about books being made into shows in 2022:

Listopia is here!

Alex Richmond | 65 comments I deeply appreciate all of these lists 1) because I don't watch TV and never know what's coming out ever and 2) because through them I learned I get to watch not one but TWO adaptations of Persuasion next year and now I'm excited!!

Joshua (hitthefunkybeats) | 126 comments I'm either going to read Wicked or School of Good and Evil, but I'm not quite sure which one.

poshpenny | 1935 comments My historically favorite book is being adapted again this year, starring one of my favorite actors. They recently released a trailer and they have RUINED it, adapted the daylights out of it. Thrown the book out of the window. Of course I will watch it immediately and love it while also screaming in my head that THERE IS NO HOT AIR BALLOON in Around the World in Eighty Days, among other things.

Sigh.

They're doing ANOTHER remake of that? How can anything surpass the greatness of Jackie Chan????? (Answer: they can't. No one can surpass Jackie Chan.)

message 9: by poshpenny (last edited Dec 01, 2021 07:18PM) (new)

poshpenny | 1935 comments If anyone can surpass the charming Jackie Chan in a movie, it may be the charming David Tennant in a series. David is playing Fogg, and instead of being a stick in the mud who does nothing but play whist, he's running around being chatty. Fixx is now a female journalist traveling with him instead of a detective chasing him. I mean, they could have at least called her Nellie. Nellie Bly actually DID go around the world, and in only 72 days!

But here's the thing. I love to watch few things more than David Tennant running around being chatty and charming, with foppy hair and a waistcoat.

The two halves of my brain are either going to come together and decide one way or the other, or my head is going to explode.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1792 comments I don't know how much of the series the Heartstopper adaptation will cover but I'll probably just use Heartstopper: Volume Five for this.

Oh wow! I love David Tennant too and also Jules Verne. And particularly that book. I must have read it 6 times since I was young. Can't wait for the movie even if it's not a copy-paste of the book.

WOW it's been a while since I read that book, I guess, because I don't remember a lot of that!! I don't have HBOMax, either, so I won't be watching it any time soon.

I read it when I was young but can't remember it particularly well, so guess it's time for a reread!

Popsugar had a list that said there is a live action Peter Pan coming, and also an adaptation of She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement by Jodi Kantor, about the women who brought down Harvey Weinstein, which I do want to read at some point, but likely a heavy read

You're saying about the hot air balloon, and I've just remembered that the Phineas Fogg branded crisps have a hot air balloon on the packet. Apparently everyone loves the concept of travelling round the world in a balloon!

It really does, and honestly I wanted to love the book so, so much more than I actually did, so maybe it will change my mind.

Well he wrote books with balloons in them! Just not 80 Days. They should make things branded Five Weeks in a Balloon! Fogg's entire point was ANYONE could do it by buying tickets on scheduled, commercial travel and specifically NOT by hiring anything special.

You know, thinking about it now, I'd LOVE an adaptation of The Twenty-One Balloons! Who do we talk to about that?

I would recommend She Said. And it didn't come across as overly heavy to me since it has a more journalistic slant. It was fascinating seeing how a story comes to light.

I'm reading this one as well. It was originally scheduled to have come out this year in 2021 but it got pushed back. Now it seems highly likely that it will be released next year.

Ron | 2755 comments Liza wrote: "Station Eleven already has a few episodes out, so depending on how strict you want to be it may not count."

I actually considered this at the beginning but then I figured since it was an end of the year (2021) series and I read the book this past week before 2022 it made sense to leave it out.

*****

While I'm open to Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI at the same time I'm still on the fence about that one.

Hoping to see if there are others out there that I would like.

LOL Never trust the Listopia!!! People add all sorts of crazy books to them that don't always fit.

I mean, it's up to each reader if you want to count a series that started in 2021. But just because it's on the Listopia doesn't mean it works.

I kind of agree here.

Personally, I usually go to amazon and search there since they usually have relevant release dates.
