Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 5 comments I have been watching Phil Drysdale's youtube videos on deconstruction this week, sort of screening them for sharing with my local online atheist club. Who else here is familiar with these?
I had never heard the term 'deconstruction' applied to deconversion from religion, since I 'deconverted' when I was 11, decades ago. Just the degree to which Drysdale stresses safety, self-care, and trauma recovery stuff makes me glad I was still a kid when i went through all that so it was maybe less traumatic.
I really like how he uses the Spiral Dynamics model of human moral development. I read that book when it was on the new nonfiction shelf in 1996, and had forgotten what it was called till I saw one of Drysdale's videos talking about it. I was transitioning from 'blue' into 'orange' when I read that book as a teen, and it took another year or so to realize my 'moral development' had shifted to the point that Ayn Rand (my choice of secular authority as a teen) was just someone with interesting ideas, not an authority to follow loyally.
