UNO RULES AND IMPORTANT INFO
❅ https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books, Graphic Novels, Manga, Cook Books, Plays and Poetry books can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com or more than 3 hours of audio using a reputable website (e.g. audible, overdrive)
For book titles starting with an article (A/An/The), the article can be ignored or used. So The Hiding Place, for example, could be used as title starting with T or H
Re-reads are ok provided it has been more than 6 months since last read
**Important note**
Some books on the color cover list may not seem like the color cover. This is because GR will show the default version. There may be a specific version that has been shelved that is the actual color. The version you read is what you should shelve, and is what counts, for UNO.
COUNTDOWN
Only books started after the challenge starts can count for this challenge.
❅Countdown to start:
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

If you are not able to use the spreadsheet, we will need to following information posted in our thread to be moved into the planning spreadsheet. You do not need to post a completion post in this thread if you are able to add to the spreadsheet on your own - this is only if you are not able to use the spreadsheet.
Our team sheet is located here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Captains will be moving books around to fill holes, so please list all cards your book could work for.
Color cards should take priority. If you claim a color card, please try to finish that book quickly so we aren't left scrambling at the end of the month!

◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points. Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ Books for tasks can be finished in any order. No need to complete blocks to get the 10 points/book.
◈ Completing six sets of tasks (ie six characters) will award your team a completion bonus of 30 points.
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your UNO hands.
◈ The usual book length rules apply.
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1).
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on 14 February, 9am UTC (Countdown: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...) and before 1 March, 9am UTC.

We will need to verify this to move it to the official sheet.
Also, please be sure you are posting in our team thread at least once a week, even if you haven't finished any books. We need to know you are still playing so we aren't scrambling at the end of the month.

Each Color card may only be duplicated once for a Wild/Wild Draw 4.
Please post your possible Color cards, including a link to the edition you are considering for the card. As captains, we have to see that the cover works for the color. You would not believe the discussion in the captain's group every year over blue & green covers!

Please introduce yourself post your Uno shelves here for Michelle and I. This makes it much easier for us to do the checking we have to do. Also, if you haven't done so yet, please accept our friend requests. This is the easiest way I know of for checking for Reverse card books.
I'm Laura. I live in North Carolina with 5 of my kids. We moved here a few years ago while my eldest stayed with my mom in California. She is attending college/nursing school and I'm so proud of her!
The rest of us are over here getting use to much colder temperatures than we have ever been use to in our lives before. But at least that leaves more time for reading.
I've been playing Uno since the beginning. It is one team challenge I will never miss!

I read pretty much everything, though not a huge romance or non fiction reader. Love to hear recs from others!
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I read a lot of genres but I avoid horror if at all possible. I'm also not a huge fan of paranormal at the moment. I read some popular fiction, some romance, some fantasy, and some young adult usually.
One of things I love about reading challenges is exchanging book recs and talking about both terrible and amazing books we've been reading.
Laura, I'm super excited to be on the same team with you again!
Excited to get to know all of you better!

I live with my husband and two kids in beautiful snowy Southern Oregon and I'm the park General Manager for Crater Lake National Park. We are in our slow season and I'm excited to read some great new books with you all over the next three months. I'll read anything for a challenge, but my favorites are mysteries of all kinds, non-fiction, and historical romances.
Like Laura said, we really need to claim the color cards first. We, as captains, need to verify the covers work for the task, and we don't want to leave those until the end of the month because they are the toughest to find.
And my Uno shelf:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

The first books we will need to claim are the colored cards since they take some coordination - they must match color cover and the letter or number. We also need to start claiming Reverses (book previously read by a teammate), Draw 2s (these need to match 2 cards in the same hand covered by one book), and don't forget those Wild Draw 4s (duplicating a color card).
And if you have other things you must read for other challenges, let's get those claimed as well.
The key is to list everything it will also fit in the "other possible cards" column. I have listed an example in post 5 above. Laura and I will be moving books around to finish up hands, so don't stress if your book is moved from your original spot! We will find a place for it. The categories listed above should be our first priority, but also list where else it can work.
And don't forget that mid month we will have a mini challenge thrown our way, so some books could move from the main to the mini, opening up spots we hadn't completed.
It all seems complicated, but once we get rolling it all makes sense. Just ask any questions here and we will figure it out together. The color covers should be over 50%, so when in doubt, post it here and we will confer as a team.

I have

Blue?

Not sure how quickly my library will get copies of

Yellow enough for yellow?

You know i'm dying to read my next Harry Bosch so if it's too gold I'll read it for something anyway. :)

Yellow enough for yellow?

I think S is for Silence works for Blue and The Crossing works for Yellow. I don't think Death by Design quite makes 50% yellow.

Both yellows look good to me. Tin God is really close! Anyone else want to weigh in?

When I last check the thread was still locked so I am glad to see it open.
I'm Alissa and I seem to be the lone Canadian. I live in Calgary, Alberta which is the major city close to Banff National Park.
I am a wide reader but my favorites are mysteries and historical fiction. I've participated in UNO for several years but didn't last year. I will go through my soon to reads later today and post some matches.

Blue

Green [bookcover:How to Be..."
Lulu, those are great examples! Yes to all, I say.

Blue

Green [bookco..."
Don't mind me. I wasn't sure about it being at least 50%, but TinEye says it's 75% green, so that one would work. :)

This is my second year in the UNO challenge, and I am thrilled to here. Can't wait for it to start!
I live just outside Oklahoma City - we just moved from the Kansas City area not too long ago to be closer to family.
My UNO shelf is here:

I love reading fantasy but really just love reading in general - so I'll try go go through my TBR soon and add some books to the spreadsheet.

Very nice Green 3 and just over 100 pages

Yellow 2 either with the title or a character. This book looks like it has a lot of characters so may fit elsewhere easily
Tomorrow I am heading south for a week so may not be on a lot, although I will try to check in as I am looking forward to the book chat and growing my TBR.

Edit: I got

Nicole, I looked at your year in books last year and you have a lot that I want to try out!

Shikha, welcome! I think you will love this challenge.
Of the books above, they all work except The Teller of Small Fortunes. It's close, but not quite 50% blue. The others fit great.
When you get a chance, can you create your Uno shelf and link for us? All books you use for the challenge need to be shelved there and marked as read for us to verify on the official spreadsheet.

Edit: I got [bookcover:Bea..."
Those were both good!

Also, the team I was on last year used a color checking site for anyone that needs it for book covers! I use it constantly: https://labs.tineye.com/color/

Remember that we can't start reading our books until the countdown ends:
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

thanks Michelle!

My name is Melissa and i’m from Montreal, Canada. This is my first time playing UNO so hopefully i’ll be able to get the rules right! I’ve been reading a lot in January so i’ll take a look at our hands in the upcoming days to see what books I read in Feb to contribute to the game!
Excited to play with you all!

Okay got it! Thanks Michelle

And welcome to everyone. Let's start reserving spots on the spreadsheet for our first reads. I am a moody reader, so I will only claim one or two at a time and see where my others might fit.
I know some of you like to plan out your reading to work with other challenges, too. Remember we have 98 cards this first round, not counting the mini challenge we will get mid-month, so we have lots of choices. Don't be shy. If you have a book you know you want to read this month that fits one of the cards, go ahead and claim it.
