I just wanted to give a shout out to any of our new members and say, Welcome!!! We are very pleased to have you. Several of us in this group already know each other but feel free to introduce yourself so we can get to know each other better. :-) Anything you would like to share, such as your interests or favorite books/authors would be great! Also, please, PLEASE feel free to make recommends or suggestions for upcoming group books! We would be thrilled to have the input and will consider any thing put on "the shelf". :-) Thanks again for joining! Looking forward to some great discussions.

Kristie (krittie28) | 7 comments Hi all, I'm Kristie! :) Love the paragraph in the group rules about "cutsie or fluff". I agree with the aviodances. I don't read Harlequin type books. I read a few when I was a teen and it's just not my cup of tea. I don't like horror movies so I don't think I can honestly admit to ever picking a horror book up. I love books that make me think, take me to that time (whenever it may be), and really become involved in the story I'm reading. Currently I'm on a woman bio kick...at the moment Goldie Hawn Goldie Hawn's book. I like her as an actress and I'm completely guilty of picking up this book just because she was on the cover...judging a book by its cover...but its a great book.
So I could probably ramble on forever so I will refrain. Hope to get to know some of you! :)

Hi Kristie! A big warm welcome to you! Thanks so much for sharing a little bit about yourself. It was fun to get to know a little bit about you and your book interests. :-) By the sounds of it you will fit right in to our Book-club! I know Annie (Moderator #2) really enjoys reading biographies of actors/actresses/people she is interested in, so she is with you on that one! I've read a few and enjoyed them as well. I also really enjoy travel memoirs (since we are talking non-fiction :)
And you are definitely amongst friends when it comes to judging books by their covers! We are unashamed book cover judgers. We find some of our favorite books that way!
Again, so glad to have you! Feel free to jump into any or all of the discussions.

Anne Marie

Hello! I do really like biographies/autobiographies :) I actually just finished an autobiography by Dick Van Dyke and it was very good! I think it's on my list.
I think we'll get along great - we're all at about the same speed so far!

Kristie (krittie28) | 7 comments Sweet...Dick Van Dyke...that actually sounds really interesting.

It REALLY was! I was kind of surprised how interesting it was, especially for an autobio. He (Mr. Van Dyke) says right in the beginning that if you're "looking for dirt" that you're not going to find it, but at the same time, he certainly didn't shy away from the less glamorous aspects, choices and circumstances of his life. And he knows what he's talking about - the man was born in 1925 and has been in "the business" most of his life! I would definitely recommend it.

Kristie (krittie28) | 7 comments Done deal. I think that sounds really interesting. Thats kinda the same thing with this book of Goldie's I'm reading. She tells a lot but doesn't reveal everything either. It's interesting.

message 9: by Trisha (new)

Trisha Hi everyone! I'm really looking forward to jumping in on some of the titles, but I feel like I'm running out of "November", so I will plan to start with your December titles :-)

Anne Marie (annemariewistad) | 47 comments Mod
Welcome Trisha! So glad to have you! I think a few of us are even behind on our November titles. It's a busy time of year! We will probably still be discussing a few of them into December if you were particularly drawn to any certain one. :-) Looking forward to some good chats!

Nilgün (hassiz) | 1 comments Hi, I want to know wath is the next book? for december and january??

message 12: by Anne Marie (new)

Anne Marie (annemariewistad) | 47 comments Mod
Hello Nilgun! So sorry! We are working on it. Both Annie and I (the moderators)have been rather lax with Bookclub this month with the holidays and upcoming business. That said, I think we are going to move the current books into next month as well. Simply extend the four we have up through the end of Dec. in order for us to catch up, get them read and have a chance to discuss. I think the only one we've actually been discussing thus far is "The Birth House". I am about to pick up "The Tenderness of Wolves" next if you would like to jump into that one with us! I will be posting January's books soon as well. I'm excited to get back into it and dig into some good topics!
Thanks for your inquiry.

Carol (mansonville) Your book club looked fun, so I joined. I found it when looking up "one thousand gifts" which I'd already started reading. I've read "Room with a View" but will think about reading it again. I loved it excessively when I was in University and into Thomas Carlyle. I've only given it 4 stars because I have doubts about the credibility of my 20 year-old self! Well, I hope that there will be fun discussions on this site.

Carol

Hello, Carol! Thanks for joining and giving us a try :) We are only a couple months into this, but we are having a lot of fun! Feel free to pop in on any of the discussions or start one yourself! We genuinely do love discussing books and this has been such a great way to meet people and share in our love of books and reading :)

Hello Carol! I second everything that Annie (Moderator #2) has already said. Welcome! So glad to have you! We are getting towards the end of the month here so hopefully the discussions will start heating up within the next week. I've been reading 1000 Gifts and have thus far REALLY enjoyed it. Thanks for joining and participating. We are glad to have you!

message 16: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Trying again ... I tried to leave a comment earlier. I'm Melissa and am also new. Haven't read the books you're reading yet and have such a backlog at home, but I thought your latest titles looked interesting so I wanted to check them out. Just reserved "A Thousand Gifts" at the library. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself!

Hi, Melissa! I know the feeling - I haven't finished a single one of our books for this month and I have a literal stack of books to read as well! But that's the fun of it :) This group is more about meeting and discussing books we like, not just the ones on the list! Thanks for introducing yourself!

message 18: by Chiyoko (new)

Chiyoko | 1 comments Hello, I'm Chiyoko. I'm new to this group, and also to this website. I thought I'd join your group because I liked your name, and because I've been looking for things to read. It looks like I'm a little behind for this month, though.

message 19: by Carol (new)

Carol (mansonville) Welcome Chiyoko. I just joined too, and I'm having fun. I took out A Room with a View (CD) from the library, and am looking forward to listening to it. Don't worry about begin behind. I think it's a "read what you want and can" kind of group.

Welcome Chiyoko! So glad you are joining us! And Carol is absolutely right. It is 100% a "read what you want and can" sort of group. Please jump in whenever! Pick whatever books interest you. And even feel free to post on discussion boards of books past or upcoming books. We are very casual and encourage any participation. :-) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions!

Carrie | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Carrie. I recently joined this site and I decided that I should try joining a group as well. This group sounds like a great fit for me. I can't wait to start reading and discussing!

Dew Mikelson | 1 comments Hello Just popping in looking at some Good read groups. I was in the middle of no ware for the winter and just getting back to where I gan use my tablet, library and coffee houses.
Mostly I read the free stuff from Google, Amazon and Project Gutenberg books because I am cheep. Read the Chronicles of Barsetshire series by Anthony Trollope over the winter. Kind of a nice accomplishment. Those I got in book form from a garage sale.
Not really into the privet eye book. I like more story books that tell a tail. Favorite is Shadow Song by Terry Kay. That was a book that again I had when I was alone in the winter months and became quite fond of it. Even met Kay and had coffee with him in GA.
