message 2: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (wsquared) | 68 comments I've heard some buzz on Code Name Verity -- I got the ARC at Midwinter, so I may read that next.

message 3: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessmonster) | 26 comments I just finished Code Name Verity and it's excellent - I definitely think it should be on our list for May books.

Amanda Martinez Kirby | 8 comments I really enjoyed Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley.

message 5: by Dana (new)

Dana Duffy Backs | 27 comments The Boy on Cinnamon Street and Curveball: The Year I Lost My Grip These have gotten a lot of starred reviews.

Since that releases in May and has received buzz on Someday My Printz, we must be sure to put it on the June poll!

Since it releases Mid-May, I'll put it on the June list.

Have not heard of this title. Will put it on the poll. Be sure to vote for it!

Boy on Cinnamon Street is more Newbery than Printz but Curveball will be on the poll.

message 10: by Paul (new)

Paul | 1 comments Please consider adding Nothing Special by Geoff Herbach to the next poll. This looks like a noteworthy novel by the same author who wrote Stupid Fast. Thanks for considering.

message 11: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessmonster) | 26 comments I just finished an ARC of Seraphina and think it's definitely worth a look - it comes out in July.

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily | 1 comments The historical fiction novel The Wicked and the Just just rocked my world.

message 13: by Anne (new)

Anne (librarianguish) I really enjoyed Lexapros and Cons. I think it's worth a look.

message 14: by Anne (new)

Anne (librarianguish) Just finished Drowning Instinct today. Intense, great voice, nothing black and white in this one.

That sounds so funny! Will have to find a copy.

Great cover for that one!

message 17: by Doret (new)

Doret | 4 comments I really want to read Drowning Instinct. I loved Code Name Verity and Boy 21. I loved Stupid Fast and I've ordered a copy of Nothining Special.

It looks like The Boy on Cinnamon Street is middle grade fiction, as it listed as 8up

I have
The Boy on Cinnamon Street on my newbery watch list.

I still want to read both Herbach books!

message 19: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (wsquared) | 68 comments I picked up Ask The Passengers by A.S. King at ALA last weekend and read it this week. I adored it and definitely think it has Printz potential -- one to add to the polls in the fall!

message 20: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 19 comments So glad some of you read Drowning Instinct. I thought it was a great read. I have Lexapros in my car waiting until I get done some others. Keep the suggestions coming!

message 21: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (mombo1) | 6 comments I added Lexapros and Cons to my list; it sounds like it could also be a contender for the Schneider Family Book Award.

message 22: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Wusterbarth Brown (sandywb) | 9 comments Just finished reading Dying to Know You by Aidan Chambers Dying to Know You is an interesting take as an older author is the narrator to the story of a love affair between a female fan of his and her boyfriend who comes to the author for help in winning her. It's much more than the story of a courtship and I found it thoughtful and surprising.

Just got done Smoke and Bone and really enjoyed it. A good fast read similar to Graceling. I think the kids will really like it.

message 26: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Hobson (mizzeliz) The Girl With Borrowed Wings by Rinsai Rosetti. Fantastic first novel, beautifully written.

message 27: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elleng721) | 1 comments Just finished Something Like Normal by Trish Doller - excellent characters dealing with complex situations

message 28: by Mary (new)

Mary | 11 comments Just read Every Day by David Levithan and Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama. Different books but both have a supernatural element, are well written with teen appeal.

message 29: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 19 comments Reading the Brides of Rollrock Island...interesting so far.

Just got a free ARC at PaLa - I think it comes out on October 26th.

message 31: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessmonster) | 26 comments January 28, at ALA Midwinter - they're usually first thing in the morning (Pacific time, this year). They don't come out with a list of finalists ahead of time - they just announce the winner and honor books.

message 32: by Dana (new)

Dana Duffy Backs | 27 comments Nancy Pearl listed Code Name Verity as one of her favorite books of the year.

message 33: by Paul (new)

Paul | 26 comments Code Name Verity, Drowned Cities, Seraphina to me all stand out over anything else this year.

Also like The Wicked and the Just, and even though it probably doesn't stand on its own: UnWholly.
