The journey in this volume mostly took place in Waal (Fortress Ci (Well, that ends volume 2!) In volume 2, we see an incoming character named Stark (the apprentice of Eisen). Albeit cowardly, Frieren recruited him to be a vanguard to Fern and herself.

The journey in this volume mostly took place in Waal (Fortress City). The prodigy mage Flammel set up a protective barrier around the city to protect humans away from demons. But demonic "peace envoys" were sent to patch things up / negotiate between humans and demons under the pretense of a reconciliation.

Frieren made it clear: we cannot trust demons because what they speak is deceoption. When she beheaded Drath, she did not held back. That's why, the original title of this manga series and Chapter 17 (the last chapter of Volume 2) is "Frieren the Slayer".

The other angle I love about Volume 2 is Fren and Frieren facing phantom corpses. To Fren, Heiter is her adoptive father. When the phantom disguised itself as Heither, Fren hesitated to shoot it with her magic. But, in Frieren's case (when Himmel showed up as a phantom corpse), she did not hesitate at all. Cold and calculating as ever, Frieren shot the phantom Himmel!

There are some chapters here that made me realize Frieren's longevity: the ten-year journey she had with the hero's party took less than 1/100th of her very long life! That's insane. In human standards, ten years is already too much. For a powerful genius elf like her, ten years is nothing.

So, the synopsis of the series is likely gonna go in the direction that Frieren needs to learn the values of short-lived humans. She might be wasting time (or, has become inefficient in her journey) but that's natural on her part because she has such a long life to live!

There are also some slice-of-life aspects in Volume 2 that I like (example: the Solar Dragon and the friendship being built between Fren and Stark). Fren is a quiet but powerful mage keeps her thoughts to herself but knows when to speak her mind. And Stark is the comedic guy of the bunch! I love him because of his silly comments and cowardice. His personality actually brings cheerfulness to the glum Fern and the childish mind of Frieren.

Anyway, that's a wrap of Voume 2. Will review Volume 3 as soon as I can! I'm on fire in reading this manga. I wish I can jump back to other manga series and binge-read some of my on-hold manga as soon as I can.

I am absorbing the content of the manga and enjoying the manga chapters we now have on hand. Frieren looks serious in the beginning, but I did not expect him to be a total coward when facing the dragon.
