This quarter I read “Look for me by Moonlight” by Mary Downing Hahn. The lexile of this book is 720. In this book there is a girl named Cynthia but in most of the book she is called Cynda, her parents have been split since she was a little girl after her dad left her for another woman. Her mom and step-father went to live in Italy and thought it was best for her to stay back and go live with her father and his family. All was good there until a guest named Vincent showed up who wasn't what they thought he was.
The theme of this book is that people can change and may not be who you think they are, be careful of who you trust and who you turn your back to because at the end of the day the one you turned on might just be the one to save you. How this theme develops over the book is when Vincent arrives and blind Cynda to his true self and she turns on Will who at the end of the book ends up saving her life. I can prove this by when Vincent said “He was trying to rape your daughter!” (page 144) when Vincent lied and said that Will was trying to rape Cynda he got everyone to turn on him except cynda because he was trying to save her from Vincents spell. Which further proves my point that you should really get to know someone before you trust them.
I would definitely recommend this book if you like vampires and mystery and if you're just looking for a good quick read. What I liked about this book is it would once in a while throw in a curve ball and kinda gets your brain going and makes you think about which characters you like and if you have a connection with them or not. This book was a little bit confusing in the beginning when it talks about Cynthia's parents separating but it starts to make more sense over the book. It definitely wasn't too difficult to read but it all depends on your personal reading level. It was a little predictable once you get to know Vincent you can kind of assume who he really is and I guessed a lot of the book before I even got to it just because of the connections I could make to the things that happened and the characters. I wish the ending was a little bit different but not every story will end how you expected it. My favorite part is when will and cynda planned out Vincents murder and when he died his spell was lifted and they all saw who he really was. A Connection I made is making the mistake of trusting the wrong people. The author's style of writing is pretty basic for the most part, nothing was too different to catch my attention. This is my take on “Look for me by Moonlight”
