This book contains a lot of reflections on what it is like to have the disease of alcoholism including how it is passed down through the family and effects families and children. Some of the references are overt - like in this quote I selected - and some are slightly more metaphorical as seen in the family of protagonists and their desperate search for the life substance that keeps them young and vital. You will get it all if you have ever had any experience with addiction. Thankfully The Solution to The Problem is also a major character in the book and I look forward to seeing how it plays out in this novel.
