This book was located in New York City in 2002 when the 9/11 terror occurred in the United States. The author Mohsin Hamid, reflected himself a little bit to the main character named Changez. Change is the main character of the story and he is a really smart and brilliant human being. He got into Princeton University that was even difficult to American. He also got into the elite group called Su Cum Laude who is really smart and brilliant. They have no Bs and all the students have As in that group. He worked with a company called Underwood Sampson. That he is probably the smartest one that will apply to this company because he only has As. However, he got shocked that if they don't have all As than they can't even apply to the company. He knew that there are a lot of people who are really smart like him and he had to found his own characteristic.

In the story, he met the girl called Erica. He thought that she was a beautiful and smart girl. She was Asian she also liked him. However, Changez didn't appeal a lot to her because it was the first time that he was looking at the girl who was not wearing a burqa. They dated sometimes and Changez found out that she still misses her ex-boyfriend called Chris. So they get their own time and separate themselves a little bit away.

I think in this story Changez had a really hard time because he was from another country and people think that he was a terrorist because of his appearance and his nationality when 9/11 happened. It's not like serious racism, but I think people have to change their minds to seeing other country people's stereotypes.

Also, I think Erica should not talk about his ex-boyfriend, because that made Changez and her connection really bad and eventually lead to a bad time. If she didn't talk about his old boyfriend, they probably had a good relationship until the end. Also, I think it's just a burden for her and him for a life long time.
I want to give three stars to The Reluctant Fundamentalist because the story had a little bit of monotonous. I also want to say that the ending of the story was common. Erica was the character that I didn't understand the most. However, I liked how the story went and it was interesting to found out that the person who only studies want to do something else. ...more "

"When I finished my book and when I almost finished my book, I knew that Erica was not in Princeton anymore. She committed suicide on the cliff. The book didn't directly show that she actually committed, but there were her clothes neatly folded nearby the cliff. Amir bought the kite and showed it to Sohrab. This story was sad and made me think a lot.
