Book cover for The Undoing of Death: Sermons for Holy Week and Easter
You could say that Palm Sunday is the Trojan horse of the Christian year. We get lured in by the festivity, but before we know it we are being assaulted by the long dramatic reading of the Passion. Palm Sunday is not a day unto itself. Palm ...more

J. Gresham Machen
“For Christians to influence the world with the truth of God's Word requires the recovery of the great Reformation doctrine of vocation. Christians are called to God's service not only in church professions but also in every secular calling. The task of restoring truth to the culture depends largely on our laypeople.

To bring back truth, on a practical level, the church must encourage Christians to be not merely consumers of culture but makers of culture. The church needs to cultivate Christian artists, musicians, novelists, filmmakers, journalists, attorneys, teachers, scientists, business executives, and the like, teaching its laypeople the sense in which every secular vocation-including, above all, the callings of husband, wife, and parent--is a sphere of Christian ministry, a way of serving God and neighbor that is grounded in God's truth. Christian laypeople must be encouraged to be leaders in their fields, rather than eager-to-please followers, working from the assumptions of their biblical worldview, not the vapid clichés of pop culture.”

J. Gresham Machen
“What I need first of all is not exhortation, but a gospel, not directions for saving myself but knowledge of how God has saved me. Have you any good news? That is the question that I ask of you. I know your exhortations will not help me. But if anything has been done to save me, will you not tell me the facts?”
J. Gresham Machen, The Christian Faith in the Modern World

John Owen
“By beholding the glory of Christ by faith we shall find rest to our souls. Our minds are apt to be filled with troubles, fears, cares, dangers, distresses, ungoverned passion and lusts. By these our thoughts are filled with chaos, darkness and confusion. But where the soul is fixed on the glory of Christ then the mind finds rest and peace for "to be spiritually minded is peace" (Rom. 8:6).”
John Owen, The Glory of Christ

Tyler Edwards
“Get plugged in at your church. Find a way to invest yourself. Let's change the church's problem from 'Where do we find the help we need?' to 'What do we do with all the help we have?' The revolution begins now; and it starts with you.”
Tyler Edwards, Zombie Church: Breathing Life Back into the Body of Christ

David Sitton
“God doesn't just "manage the damage," He definitively promises "to work everything for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
David Sitton
