I think one of the main issues is that we get a chapter from every character (especially after we read one chapter about how something horrible happened to another character and how they are probably dead and separated from the group, but then we'd immediately get that other character's POV and everything turns out fine). It takes away tension and worry every time it happened and it happened so many times. I think that a lot of those chapters should have been cut out, not only because they make the book drag on and on but also because taking them out would help leave the reader in the dark a little bit more.

Cress. I hated her. I know that she's 16 and not used to the regular world, but she's so whiny and useless at everything except her unrealistic ability to program and code. In one scene, her LI is brainwashed by a lunar. He tells the lunar that he loves her and also kisses her (all of this happens without his control or consent. He's being brainwashed. ). And Cress throws a fit about it and gets extremely upset. All of this happens while they are on a CRUCIAL mission. Cress puts her feelings before this mission, which I would normally understand, but what she is upset about is outrageous (and she knew the entire time that he was brainwashed and is still upset!). Also, Cress is 16 and her LI is 20-ish. That's disgusting. How am I suppose to root for a relationship between a 16-year-old minor and an actual adult? Not to mention that Cress isn't used to the regular world and could easily have been manipulated by an older guy. AND there is a sort of parasocial relationship between them because Cress is aware of him before they met and idolizes/admires him.

People have been talking about some problematic elements of the book and I want to help shed light on them. Here are two big things in the book that I see bought up:
- I have seen many complaints and comments from people about how the different cultures from Asia in this book are all mashed together and poorly represented. I remember seeing a few people saying that they felt like the author did little research to represent their culture(s) properly.
- Scarlet is constantly calling Winter crazy (if there's a chapter that they are both in, I guarantee you that this will happen). Many people have talked about how this is an ableist thing that Scarlet is doing (a theme of the book isn't about tackling ableism and no one corrects Scarlet so this is seen as acceptable behavior to treat Winter this way). Winter suffers from vivid (and often violent/disturbing) visions as a result of not using her lunar gift so Scarlet is calling someone who is clearly mentally struggling "crazy" ...more "
