Lately, I haven't been writing books reviews right away after I finish them, I've been letting the story sink in, think about it for a couple of weeks and then doing maybe a more honest review, without the excitement of just finishing it (I don't know, is a thing :D )
But with this one, if I keep thinking about it, I'm just going to keep finding things that are wrong with it, till the point that probably I'll just end up hating it, so let's get on with it, shall we?

Here kids is the perfect example of how to ruin a book in the last 50 pages. I mean, it wasn't a master piece to begin with, but it had potential, it was interesting, apart for little overused character details, the book captured me. About 30% in, after getting used to the clunky writing style, and switching the ebook for the audiobook, I managed to continue with this thing, and it was actually OK! I had my theories about what was going on (all of them turned out to be true, so I'm ignoring that fact and the temptation to call this book predictable) and even tho none of the characters were likeable, I want it to see where this thing was going.
Dramatic moments here and there, the story was moving along, with a weird dual time frame, that from time to time got a bit confusing, but quickly it turned itself around so the reader didn't become completely lost. But the main issue started when those last 50 pages came in. The "resolution" of this book made absolutely no sense at all, even in the paranormal ish world Nova Ren Suma build for us. Here's the thing, I like open endings, endings perfect for discussion and even personal interpretation, but when an author omits an important detail in the behavior of one the characters, the detail that practically sets in motion the second half of the book and the conclusion of the complete picture, sorry but to me it feels like the author ran out her creative juice and just went along with it.

I hated the fact that the writer instant explanation for some of the behaviors, actions of two of the main characters was "I blacked out", please, no, why? is it lazy writing? And don't even get me started on the fact (view spoiler)

I don't like the meddling of ghosts with the living. I didn't like the fact that a ghost can PHYSICALLY KILL a living person, in a matter of personal taste, I rather have the interaction of the death and the living kept to a spooky minimal, I think it has a better effect on the overall story.

I can personally imagine a complete different ending for this thing, with less plot holes and without the need to leave everything unfinished and unexplained.

I don't recommend this book, it's difficult to get through. The writing was a bit impossible to find the pace, like I was walking on moving sand, dragging my feet, trying to make out of this thing, and at the end, is not even worth all the struggle. ...more "
