I'm going to start by saying forgive me if my opinion might sound a little messy in terms of what went wrong on this book and what went right, but I literally have 6 pages 3.5/5⭐

I'm going to start by saying forgive me if my opinion might sound a little messy in terms of what went wrong on this book and what went right, but I literally have 6 pages of annotations for this.

HOFAS would be a solid 3 if it wasn't for Lidia Cervos and Ruhn Danaan saving the book.

There was so many times that I was reading with my eyes instead of my brain (+ skipping scenes that were boring), I don't know if reading the book on my pc had any influence, but for now this is the rating and opinion I'm going with.

The organization of the first part of this book was a whole mess and it made it so hard for me to keep reading, I got whiplash by the too many exchanges of characters povs with little development. The only thing that got me captivated in that first part was Theia's lore, Lidia Cervos & Ruhn & Tharion povs.

Did I have expectations for the CC x Acotar crossover? Yes. The characters chosen to accompany Bryce could've been others, but I get that Sarah is setting up the next ACOTAR book with Azriel being there, plus Nesta wasn't that bad...But for me the real problem of that crossover was Bryce Quinlan.

It should be a crime to completely obliterate your main character in just one book.

What to say about Bryce Quinlan in the 1st and 2nd part...She was a condescending brat, immature, annoying and at times too extremist (to the point that she wanted to do exactly what she hated so much in Pippa Spetsos and Phillip Briggs).

SJM was trying to make her an Aelin 2.0 and failed soooo bad. Compared to HOEAB and HOSAB I don't even recognize this Bryce. Where was the girl that was horrified with what Pippa and Phillip Briggs were doing? Theia's lore about the fae was sick and disgusting, but it wasn't just the fae that were cowards. When she said to Sathia that the fae would have what they deserved by dying, it doesn't even make sense since the other houses were also complicit to the terror that the Asteri brought to the humans.

Plus HOEAB Bryce would NEVER be as insensitve as she was in the 2nd part with Hunt when she acted like his trauma was a burden and basically told him "are you done yapping? i need you as a weapon".

I also have to mention that in the 3rd part, Hunt was unnecessary with Celestina...yeah f*ck her for betraying you, but she's not the main focus at that point.

Now exchanging characters let's go with Dumb & Dumber, emphasis on Dumber to Ithan Holstrom.

If Rhysand and Bryce are cousins then Ithan might also be related to Chaol, with the way he makes my blood pressure rise and boil.

The built up for the final battle with the Asteri was non existent if you compare it to Kingdom of Ash and for a fantasy book, it's not realistic that everyone in the group survives.

Every decision that he made this book...THINK ITHAN!!!

It was obvious that Ithan was going to become Prime, but was it really necessary for him to become the Prime at the cost of Sigrid's life? At the begining I actually liked Sigrid, because she was keeping Flynn, Declan and Ithan in their toes & the sprites and her were cute together. So what was even the point of getting her out of the Astronomer's tanks if she was going to end up dying either way and then become a Reapper?

Couldn't there be a way to make her come to the conclusion that she wasn't suitable for the role without her going through that?

Positive points✨

▪️Tharion, shocking I know, but I found myself actually enjoying his povs even more when Sathia came into the picture. I think she was mentioned as some spoiled fae in HOSAB, but she surprised me and made all the right questions to Bryce about what she wanted to do after defeating the Asteri and she was a badass while talking with the River Queen;

▪️Tristan Flynn comedic timing in this book is amazing. If CC4 is more focused on side characters I need him to have povs AND him and Ariadne together...do you feel it? love it;

▪️LIDIA CERVOS & RUHN DANAAN my beloveds, I could do a whole thesis about how they easily became one of the best characters and best couple in the SJMU.

Lidia was the engine of this whole book, she was the only one that did smart decisions, she offered the best action scenes and the best moments. The tension and angst between her and Ruhn got me crying and giggling.

My favorite part of this book is with no doubt the scene where they're running away from Mordoc and she shifts into a doe to buy more time for Ruhn, Hunt & Baxian to run away, but before she nuzzles herself in Ruhn's neck (*cries*).

▪️The Princes of Hell, I think we could've had more from them but either way I loved it and even think there is a potential in them for a future series.

In conclusion if SJM wants to write novellas focused on Ruhn & Lidia I will buy it (idk i need to see them co parenting Ace and Brann and having kids).

P.S: that whole Shahar scene was ridiculous ????

ACOTAR THEORIES TIME

Theory 1:

The Asteri stuck at the prison in the Night Court said "we pooled our power and imbued those gifts into the Cauldron so that it would work our will".

Now think a bit with me, what if the power in the Cauldron redirected Elain's mate bound to Lucien (making them false mates, like Rowan and Lyria), because it was it's will, since Azriel had his power diminished and was weak during that moment. Meanwhile the Cauldron had no say about Nesta because she stole it's essence later.

Theory 2:

Bryce looks at Azriel and thinks "he must have had some sort of Starborn in him".

I recall his father being mentioned somewhere in acotar as someone important, if I'm not mistaken. My theory is that his father can somehow be related to Rhysand's father and that's why he might have Starborn in him.

Now that both Starborn and Truth Teller are in Velaris, there's two paths in my mind.

1: Since it belongs to his lineage and he's the High Lord, Rhysand claims the Starborn and from that point SJM might develop the plot of him and Feyre becoming High King and High Queen of Prythian.

2: Azriel finds out he's part of Theia lineage and the Starborn sword goes to him, meanwhile it's pair, Truth Teller, goes to the only person he allowed and trusted to touch it.
