“For your information . . . I do not gangbang chicks.” I readjust my tie in annoyance. “I encourage group activities where everyone is treated equal.” I square my shoulders. “There’s a big difference.”
“And another summer you brought a stack of books with you. You sat by the pool with the stack, and I watched you read a different book every thirty minutes. I thought it was so freaking odd.” “It’s called a book mash-up.” Her cheeks are bright red, as though I caught her doing something shameful. “Song mash-ups were huge, so I thought it would be interesting to try it with books. I picked three that were similar in style and story line, and I took turns reading each one every thirty minutes.” “What was it like?” “Extremely confusing.” We both laugh. “But then, I realized I should do it with a series.” She taps her head. “So, I took a fantasy series and started reading the three books in the thirty-minute increments, and guess what?” “What?” I ask, enjoying the way she gets animated when something truly brings her joy. “It was like I was reading an entire book in past, present, and future. It was so freaking awesome, seeing how it all came together. Honestly one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had.”
