"Enjoying so far...but today I realized that there has been ZERO mention of any females. Not even eluded to. No wives, female workers, politicians...I don't think there's a "she" in this book at all! Pretty funny. The closest thing was the mention of "families." I dont think Asimov meant to do this which makes it even more funny. Good thing I'm a Jules Verne fan, otherwise I may have been fazed :P" — Jun 28, 2013 10:06AM

“The state — or, to make matters more concrete, the government — consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can’t get, and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time it is made good by looting ‘A’ to satisfy ‘B’. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is a sort of advanced auction on stolen goods.”

“Because, if you could love someone, and keep loving them, without being loved back . . . then that love had to be real. It hurt too much to be anything else.”
