"So far, this book is interesting. The first chapters are about the trials, tribulations and successes of the people working for the red wolf program, as well as some of the wolves themselves. Chapter seven is covering the people living in the Ablemarle and their perceptions of the wolves and the recovery program." Dec 03, 2021 07:24PM

"I picked this one up to skim while waiting and ended up reading the first 18 pages.

I have only one peeve so far. The author seems knowledgeable, but falls for the "superiority of modern ways." Old (shamanism, magic, etc) = emotional, superstitious, not much to offer. New (from the Renaissance on) = rational, superior, the one true way."

Neil Gaiman
“Fat Charlie went back to his hotel room, the colour of underwater, where his lime sat, like a small green Buddha, on the countertop.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.”
Neil Gaiman, Anansi Boys

“I raised an alluring eyebrow. Alluringly.”

“Just a quick glimpse to assure myself that everything was buttoned and unbuttoned in the best places and pointing in the right direction.”

“Autumn lingered on as if fond of its own perfection.”

“So, yeah, my people figured that maybe there's something at the back of it all, a creator, a great spirit, and so we say thank you to it, because it's always good to say thank you. But we never built churches. We didn't need to. The land was the church. The land was the religion. The land was older and wiser than the people who walked on it.”
Neil Gaiman, American Gods
