It had everything I love in a story: a richly imagined world and unique magic system, a fiery female lead, a tortured male protagonist who unexpectedly grows fond of her, and an incredible supporting cast.

The world-building and magic system felt refreshingly original—especially in the Romantasy genre, where things can sometimes start to blur together. I loved the mix of alchemy, vampires, fae, and interconnected realms. It brought a distinct flavor to the story that kept me fully engaged and excited to see where the next book will go.

Saeris is one of the most compelling main characters I’ve ever read. Her powers were fascinating, and her reactions to being a human in a fae world felt authentic. I appreciated her vulnerability—shaped by childhood trauma—but also her strength, wit, and refusal to be manipulated, even by Kingfisher.

Speaking of Kingfisher... He’s now one of my all-time favorite male protagonists. I’m a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope, and when his motivations for mistreating Saeris were finally revealed, I couldn’t help but fall for him. His love for his friends, their unwavering loyalty to him, and the respect he commands in his kingdom added depth to his character, even before Saeris saw it. His tortured soul, his slow healing, and that beautiful scene at his mother’s cottage where she helped him through his night terrors—utterly unforgettable.

The romance was spot-on: the perfect balance of emotional depth and romantic tension, with just the right amount of spice. The banter between Saeris and Kingfisher had me laughing and kicking my feet. The gradual shift from enemies to lovers felt natural and well-paced—thankfully, no insta-love here. And the reveal behind the nickname "Little Osha"? Perfection. They’re easily one of my favorite romantasy couples of all time.

The story jumped into the action right away, and I was hooked from the beginning. I savored every part of it and already plan to re-read it this fall before the second book releases. The ending was intense and fast-paced—just the right amount of a cliffhanger to leave me eager for more, without the frustration of an abrupt stop (looking at you, Rebecca Yarros!).

Final Thoughts:
If you're even remotely a fantasy fan, I highly recommend this book. Don’t let the cheesy cover art deter you as it did me—it’s absolutely worth diving into. ...more "
