When I found out that she had a sequal of books I decided I wanted to read them all. This book is the first of four of her books. It starts off talking about life in the city and relationships. It talks about how Jane the main character in the book(even though there are lots of characters)is a new roommate to a girl named Scarlet. Jane and Scarlet become the best of friends and thought that their relationships wouldn't get in the way of their friendship. They go to parties and find different guys out at these clubs. They find jobs together and get this gig on a hit TV show. This somehow pushes the friendship of Jane and Scarlet even farther when Scarlet starts liking Janes old boyfriends brother.Eventually Jane puts a guy first before her best friend Scarlet and Scarlet moves out without warning. Jane is devestated but can't get a hold of Scarlet so Jane just lets it go for a while. Eventually Scarlet sees Jane in a store and they go to lunch to talk about what happend. Scarlet however in the meantime finds a boy that she falls head over heels for and decides to move in with him. Jane and Scarlet are on good speeking terms but Jane couldn't pay for the whole apparentment herself so she moves out to a smaller one she can afford. In the end you can only guess what happeneds to both the girls and the boys they are with. I'm not going to spoil the end but it's a great ending. The quality of this book is great, I rated it with three stars because it was very easy to understand and I felt like I was reading how high school life or college life could be. The theme of LA Candy is teaching a person to not ruin a friendship over a boy. This theme emerges throughout the whole book because it keeps going back and forth about boys and friendships being ripped apart by chattyness and things that happen in between. This pivotal scene is about acting like you belong. Scarlet and Jane tried to find a parking place outside this club but their was literly no where to park. They ended up parking far down the street and had to wait in line for hours just to get up to the bouncers at the doors to the club. When all of a sudden in line Jane sees Caleb her old high school crush outside in line just a few feet in front of the two girls. Jane suddenly didn't want to get any closer to the door and wanted to leave, but Scarlet said we waited in line so long lets just stay for a few. After finally getting inside this club they find themselves a few drinks and sit down on some couches inside. When greated by Caleb and his friends Jane becomes embarssed and imendently wanted to leave. Scarlet had fun entertaining the boys and aksing them plenty of questions while Jane stood their quite in her own skin. After a while a male came up to them and asked them to be on a TV show and said that they would be perfect for the part the producers were trying to show. Braden was one of the boys Jane and Scarlet met that night at the club and Jane had the hots for this boy. She had gotten his number and they had talked for some time before he had asked Jane to dinner. Jane accepted but later discovered he possibly could have a girlfriend named Willow. "Jane glanced at the screen it was a text from Scarlet, Hello? did you 4get about me? it said. It's Scar, Jane told Braden. She typed back to Scarlet No I'm with Braden. Scar replied What? and asked is Willow there and Jane said no"(67). It goes sort of along with the theme that Jane makes the tension rise between her and Scarlet when she lies to her and goes out with this boy that may have a girlfriend. It also shows the type of boys Jane and Scarlet find in clubs. Jane goes home to talk to her parents about what she has all accomplished here in LA but her parents just make kind of a joke out of her being on TV. "You're going to be a TV star. Jane laughed Okay, mom whatever you say. Honey this is great but whats the catch her father had piped in"(78). Her parents were happy for both her and Scarlet for getting this job on this hit TV show but her father was right what was the catch. In the end the catch was that this man rips the friendship of many girls apart and was starting to rip Scarlet and Jane friendship too. ...more "
