Maybe it’s because we expect that one day we will fall for our prince charming and life will be all rainbows and butterflies. The book I just finished was “Looking for Alaska” by John Green. I heard it was a love story and kind of just assumed it would end the way a "Disney princess" movie would end. Well I was wrong.

Miles, the main character is definitely confused on who he is and what he wants. Until he meets Alaska, The relationship they formed together was unusually pleasing. Miles fell for Alaska, fell hard for her. Alaska had many issues of her own though like having her mother die when she was 8 years old, the guilt from not calling 911 haunts her everyday. I think Alaska has no reason to have this much pressure on her because at the time she had no idea what was happening. The worst part of the book comes next, if you’re really into the book this is when the tears start pouring out. The part of the book that changes your perspective, Alaska kills herself. They debate if it was suicide or not but my personal belief is that she just wanted to be with her mother up in heaven and that she didn’t want to feel that guilty pain anymore. “Pudge” (miles’ nickname) was devastated. To me this part of the book is loosely put together. I felt the need to have had more to read when I got to the last few pages. Which I guess with the relationship you form from miles and Alaska you develop a love for those two that it’s just kind of unexpected. But I guess I can admit I’m the type to like books that have a few tears to them. If you are, this is a great book for you.

In conclusion, Miles states that he will forever be in love with Alaska. One of my favorite quotes in this book is “At some point, you just pull off the Band-Aid, and it hurts, but then it's over and you're relieved” (7). I feel that this quote directly sums up the fact that sometimes you just have to realize what you need to get over and you need to just get over it. Sometimes the “band aid” in life holds us back to things we need to accomplish or in this case get over essentially. This book isn’t for everyone and I get that. I just asked my friend if she enjoyed this book and she said she hated it and I just asked a different friend if she liked it and she said it was her favorite book she ever read. Its just one of those books, you like it or you hate it. IT’S WORTH A TRY, IF YOU’RE DEBATING ON READING IT OR NOT! JUST DO IT! ...more "
