I've NEVER read a male author with his talent for tying up loose ends while still keeping you on the edge of your seat, wanting more.
I am so glad I found this series AFTER all 6 books were published - waiting on these ones would have been TOUGH!

Cursors Fury picks up another 2 years after Academ's Fury. Tavi is still in training as a Cursor, working with an instructor studying the Romans (I thought this part was very clever!) when he is called into service as part of a new legion. Tavi's parts are almost entirely straight military fantasy, and I was surprised to find myself loving it. The only battle scenes I've enjoyed as much are those that Penman has written (and that's one WEIRD comparison!)
Tavi is smart and tricksy and I loved seeing him use what he learned in such clever ways.

The other main characters storylines were just as engaging. Bernard and Amara continue to have a relationship I love reading. Again - I've never read a male author that writes relationships so believably.
Amara becomes more indispensable to Gaius in every book, and this was her best so far. She's as tricksy as Tavi ;) I love the way she continues to gain confidence as she spends more time with Bernard. Such a realistic nuance.
Bernard remains the perfect strong character. I almost consider him to be the cornerstone for all of our other steadholt characters.

Isana's role in this book is more limited than it has been in the other books, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm excited to see where she3 and Fade go from here...

Other notes...
The continuation of the character Rook was perfectly done. I loved her story.
Kitai continues to be one of the most engaging characters in the book. I love her strength and spirit.
The addition of Fidelias made me roll my eyes. But ONLY because I know people in real life who are as self centered, self serving and self important as he is. Bleck.
