For so long we’ve known Tom Carraway as a rockstar, a troublemaker, and a perfectionist, and in Silver Sweet he’s still all of that but also so much more! His mind is a wonderfully hilarious place to be but there’s also a lot of vulnerability in there that we’ve never fully seen before. He cares so deeply, not only about his band but also for his brothers, and he works so incredibly hard to achieve his dreams; he made it so easy for me to relate to, root for, and love him.

One of my favourite things about Krista & Becca’s second gen series is how the presence of the Core 6 is so tangible (even when they're not on page) through their children’s personalities, values, and mannerisms. I particularly adored how the very essence of Kiss the Sky bleeds through the pages of Silver Sweet – everyone should be grateful they didn’t have to hear me squealing about each and every Easter egg 🙈 – Tom’s passion and ambition could’ve only ever been born from Rose & Connor.

Although family obviously plays a major role in The Cobalt Empire series, Silver Sweet really wouldn’t be Silver Sweet without our favourite hot drummer: Mr Phoenix St. Pierre. I am continually awed by Krista & Becca’s ability to create completely unique characters that genuinely feel like real people and Phoenix is no different! He was in some ways completely what I was expecting and in others a complete surprise. It was such a joy to watch Tom find someone who fully understands every part of him without ever thinking he was too much – especially after what he went through in Burn Bright. Phoenix matches him in passion, dedication, and talent and their partnership both musically and romantically is so very special. The world is not ready for them!

Despite these books being interconnected standalones, many of the plot lines from Burn Bright continue so naturally into Silver Sweet, and new ones come to light without ever feeling like they’re overtaking the central plot. We see a different perspective of the Cobalt siblings and some of the wider side characters, giving us a deeper understanding of who they are as people and likely building up to what’s to come for them in their own stories. We are also introduced to Phoenix’s brother, Birdie (whom we know to be Audrey’s love interest), and meeting him properly has only amplified my excitement for Loathed Love to unforeseen levels – I know Audie’s story will be just as life-altering as the ones that have come before and I cannot wait!!

This review has taken me so long to write, primarily because I feel like I’ll never be able to put into words what this series and this world mean to me. These characters are, and have been for a long time, so much more than characters and this book truly made me feel like I was living Tom & Phoenix’s dream with them. It was a huge honour to get to read this early, so thank you so much to Krista & Becca, both for the ARC and for creating a world that feels like home <3. ...more "
