“நான் திகைப்புற்று கண் திறந்தபோது படகு நதியில் போய்க் கொண்டிருந்தது. அஸ்தினாபுரத்திற்கு என்னை கூட்டிச்செல்ல ஏற்றி கொண்ட மனிதன் துடுப்பிட்டவாறே இருந்தான். அவன் இப்பொழுது வாலிபனை போல தோற்றம் கொண்டிருந்தான். எனக்கு தடுமாற்றமாய் இருந்தது.
"நீ கிருஷ்ண துவைபான வியாஸனா?"
ஆம் என்று தலையசைத்தான். அப்பொழுது தான் கவனித்தேன். படகை நதி கரைக்கு செலுத்தாமல் நதியின் திசையில் செலுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான் என. நாங்கள் நதிவழியில் வெகு தூரம் வந்துவிட்டோம். எதுவும் திட்டமாக அறிந்துக்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. அவனிடம் நான் கேட்டேன்,
"நாம் எங்கே செல்கிறோம்?"
"துவக்கத்திற்கு".
இதன் துவக்கத்திற்கு என்றோ, அது எங்கிருக்கிறது என்றோ, அவன் சொல்லவோ நான் கேட்கவோ இல்லை. நதி செல்லும் திசையிலேயே படகு சென்றுக்கொண்டிருந்தது.”
