“With all that said, you don’t have to bring world events into every class. It’s okay to sprinkle in what I call “sanctuary practices” where for the duration of the class you guide the students through awareness — tuning to sensation, theming around the breath, cultivating stillness, or connecting with spirit, for example — in other words, keeping things on the lighter side. In fact, students are craving respite for their overstimulated nervous systems and managing anxiety (climate anxiety or otherwise). Therefore, intentionally integrating sanctuary practices into your repertoire is important. The key is to strike a balance over time between classes that address the world and classes that are more sanctuary-like. This way, students can trust that you’re going to keep it real when it’s needed but also offer classes with a “love and light” approach sometimes. Emphasize Community and Organize Outings”
