I hope everyone loves this book that I've recommended it to - it's a tiny bit slow early on but the payoff was so worth it IMO. So much to love about this book. I will be anxiously awaiting announcements for book two!

Sometimes I truly am shocked at how much a book grips me. Generally if you see it on my page I enjoyed it and recommend it but every now and then I get a slamming 5 star read. This was undoubtedly one of them. I finished this book and immediately had the urge to pick it up again.

This was such a gritty world. It was rough around the edges but also held so much joy, laughter, and community amongst the chaos of war and rebellion. I saw an early review compare it to peaky blinders and it was so spot on with the vibes. I couldn’t unsee it after reading that. The setting was unlike anything I’ve read recently and it was such a breath of fresh air.

The world building was easy to follow and process without being overwhelming. I could easily keep pace with the politics and agendas (what we knew of them anyway). The writing itself was so descriptive and you literally felt like you were walking through the town or at the pub with them at times.

I’m a heavy romance girly through and through so this hit a lot of marks for me on that end. However, my other favorite trope in a book is found family and the found family vibes were so strong. I loved the relationship and bond between our immediate characters but the whole town itself had its own charm with its sense of community...and chaos.

A Forbidden Alchemy has an elemental magic system, tons of political intrigue, and a scorchingly fun slow burn romance. It is full of secrets and betrayal and quite a few twists to keep you on your toes!

I have more to say but didn’t want to lose my immediate thoughts so I’ll be back to update this. But my recommendation is to go in blind if you can!
