I wizzed through this book and really enjoyed this fantasy read. I had not read fantasy in years and reminded me of the mortal instruments series (which I loved more than words).

I wizzed through this book and really enjoyed this fantasy read. I had not read fantasy in years and reminded me of the mortal instruments series (which I loved more than words).

This was a real enemies to lovers, not even enemies but like bully to victim to enemies to lovers almost. Even though, the bullying was really brutal at times which shocked me, I slowly found myself warming up to Cardan. I did find it to be great revenge and karma for Cardan to make him King, but now I’m sat here thinking if Cardan continues on the path of loathing he’s on with Jude, she really isn’t safe at all.

I don’t know if it’s because I read this in less than 24 hours but I did not see many of the twists, especially Oaks parentage. I feel like I should have clocked it from when Jude described his horns and had said the Royals have animal like features but it did not click at all. I also did wonder how her plan with crowning oak and then running away with him would work and realised late that she wasn’t going to crown him at all.

I really liked Jude’s character and her quest for power that she finally has even though it’s not at all like she would imagine. Some of her decisions made sense, the only thing that annoyed me was her trying to save that one human girl, it just felt so random and unnecessary but maybe it will come back in later books?

Locke and Taryn also pissed me off so much, I get where Taryn is coming from and how Locke manipulated her but she’s sick for going along with Locke’s plan for real. Plus Locke is also scum of the earth, the only one below him is valerian whom met a fitting end.

I was hoping Jude would kill Balerian too but wishful thinking. I do want Jude to become a knight or a warrior or something. I need her to start killing people left and right to secure things for Oak ☕️

I definitely do recommend this book and I’m excited to see how Cardan and Jude’s relationship grows because they’ve now graduated to enemies to lovers ...more "
