If you haven’t figured out that this is an alternate timeline yet … Lance Corporal wasn’t officially adopted by the Marines until 1958. It had been in informal use up till then to denote someone with Leadership responsibilities but without the corresponding NCO rank to back it up. In 1917 the Corps formally adopted the rank of Private First Class to bridge the gap between “Private Soldiers/Marines and Non-Commissioned Officers”.
