I first read this series in May last year and fell in love. Penn Cole’s writing is superb and only gets better on a re-read. I am obsessed with everything about this series. The world building, the plot, the politics, the magic, the SLOWWWWW BURN, the characters – all of it written seamlessly together to create a series that I couldn’t put down.

Did I want to scream at my dear Diem a few times? Yes, of course!! But that is what I love about her. She is so REAL. She doesn’t make perfect choices; she makes mistakes, and she doesn’t always learn from them. Diem is one of my favourite FMC’s for these exact reasons. I love her growth in this book, and her determination to be true to herself and fight for what is right.

“Desire?” He gave a dark, throaty laugh. “Desire is a pathetic word for what I feel for you. I require you. I am sustained by you. You are the flame that fuels my fire. Don’t you dare question that—not for a second.”

Luther, my sweet baby Luther. This book solidified him as a top-tier book boyfriend. Everything he does, he does for Diem. His utter devotion to Diem is evident on every page. The words that come out of this man’s mouth?! I can’t deal. I just love this man more and more as the series goes on!

“Show me your worst, my darling, and I’ll show you how far my love can go.”

Their relationship journey is one of my favourites to read. When I recommend this series I always try to emphasise that it is a slowwww burn but SO WORTH IT. What else is worth it? The SPICE. The way I ate up every single hand brush, heated stares and "Dream of me" all leading to an utterly perfect spice scene.

One of my favourite tropes in this series is found family. I adore Taran, Alixe and Eleanor. I love their unwavering loyalty to Diem and their unfaltering support to Luther. I love Teller and Lily - if anything happens to them I may riot. Every character feels so important and I've come to love them all.

This book has me in a constant state of distress when it comes to deciphering THOSE DAMN PROPHECIES. I have many unhinged theories that has me incredibly excited for book 4. I will patiently wait for as long as it takes because I love this world so damn much! ...more "
