Ramona is stumbling her way into her new reality as a retired child star and pop sensation determined to find her new path in life. When she decides to enroll in college, she comes face to face with her new divorcee professor, Nick Navarro. The attraction between the two of them is instantaneous and literally jumps off the page. Their relationship starts as a tension filled push and pull as teacher and student, but they can only resist for so long. With Ramona’s straight forward and no bullshit attitude and Nick’s more soft spoken approach at life, they are the perfect pair. They are so incredibly hot together and several times I had to set my book down to compose myself. Their tension is thick as molasses which has you yearning for something to happen. The flirting and banter between the two of them is easy and flows incredibly well with the ongoing dialogue and does not feel oversaturated or forced. I was giddy with excitement as they navigated through their complicated feelings for one another and, at times, so incredibly flustered.
But I think what makes this love story extremely special is how pure and wholesome it was. They cultivated a genuine friendship that flourished so naturally into the most gentle and safe romance. Ramona has dealt with so much abuse in her life and it was incredible to read about how Nick not only comforted her in the way she always wanted, but also felt the overwhelming need to protect her. He is so caring and soft with everything he does and expects absolutely nothing in return. And as Nick deals with the confusion and aftermath of his divorce, Ramona is there to comfort him right back. They are continuously trying to protect one another from anything that might cause them unhappiness and harm, and the author has such a talent for making it cut all the way down to your soul.
This book expertly told a story of finding love at the most unexpected time in your life, while also exploring themes about rebuilding yourself after feeling lost for so long. Ramona and Nick bring each other back to life in a beautiful but fun way and I cannot wait for readers to meet them. This is a book that really makes me appreciate the genre and made me fall in love with reading all over again.
Also, side note, but this story does touch on some pretty heavy topics, so please make sure to read the content warnings before reading.
