" Where to start? This book has consumed my entire being since I read it for the first time 2 years ago. I fell completely in love with this book. The writing, the storytelling, the characters, all of it. The love between Achilles and Patroclus warms m Where to start? The love between Achilles and Patroclus warms my heart and I love how Madeline Miller portrayed them.

The tale of their lives and deaths breaks dams in my mind flooding it until the water has no choice but to break the barrier in my eyes.

Like come on?? The things they say about each other, the way Patroclus thinks about Achilles?? FREAKING WONDERFUL.

“He is half of my soul as the poets say.”

“Had she really thought I would not know him? I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”

“We reached for each other, and I thought of how many nights I had lain awake loving him in silence.”
^^ That's only a few quotes from the book, but with them I hope you can see just a little why I love this book.

The depth of the love in which they feel for each other would go on forever, it would have no end. They loved each other body in soul, in life and in death, in their hearts and minds. They loved each other through everything, they’ve seen each other’s flaws, they were each other’s weaknesses, and still they stayed together.

“What has Hector ever done to me?” Achilles asked with a smile, not knowing that in the end Hector would do the worst possible thing. He would take his love away from him. He would turn him into a heartless monster, a soulless beast. Achilles would wish for death, welcome it with a lovers embrace. Achilles would die thinking 'finally, I can go to him.'

Achilles raged when Patroclus had died, he had shaken the world with his shouts, he had created rivers with his tears, and he had split the earth beneath his feet as he ran to avenge the only person he ever saw. (Nothing I've read directly states this, but this is sort of my take on Achilles and Patroclus's story!)

So yea, this book is definitely a five star read. The way I felt when reading it the first time, is the way that I feel when rereading it every other time. 10/10 I recommend, you should definitely give this book a chance. ...more "
