I've seen Sanderson in panels at GenCon (GenCon has the best panels!) and watched a few of his videos where he teaches Creative Writing (they're free, check them out if that's up your alley). I love his Mistborn novels and the first two books in the The Stormlight Archive. So I'm biased by a lot of favorable pre-book reading experience, but I loved this novel.

I'll keep my review spoiler-free. It's a crazy-long novel and my only complaint is wanting more time with some of the main characters. Sanderson makes me fall in love with multiple main characters and then I can't get enough viewpoint time with any of them. How rude.

I'm sure people will teach courses on Sanderson's Cosmere (if they don't already) so I may have to reread the book a few times to pick up all the clues and nuances. I'm okay with that, because the books so fun.

I kept muttering swear words when bad/good/dramatic things happened to my favorite characters. (P.S. anybody with problems with Shallan in this book, I've seen you in the comments section and disagree. SO STRONGLY. Have you no heart?). The novel was fast-paced, immersive, and thrilling. If it's an option, this is one of the times I'd recommend buying the hardcover. Worth it for the gorgeous artwork and illustrations. Do not drop it on your face though in sleepy, delirium. That hurts.
