Geoffrey Chaucer
“the guilty think all talk is of themselves.”
geoffrey chaucer

Roger Ebert
“A lot of fans are basically fans of fandom itself. It's all about them. They have mastered the Star Wars or Star Trek universes or whatever, but their objects of veneration are useful mainly as a backdrop to their own devotion. Anyone who would camp out in a tent on the sidewalk for weeks in order to be first in line for a movie is more into camping on the sidewalk than movies. Extreme fandom may serve as a security blanket for the socially inept, who use its extreme structure as a substitute for social skills. If you are Luke Skywalker and she is Princess Leia, you already know what to say to each other, which is so much safer than having to ad lib it. Your fannish obsession is your beard. If you know absolutely all the trivia about your cubbyhole of pop culture, it saves you from having to know anything about anything else. That's why it's excruciatingly boring to talk to such people: They're always asking you questions they know the answer to.”
Roger Ebert, A Horrible Experience of Unbearable Length: More Movies That Suck

“There's this terrible thing these days on television, on radio and all the way throught the media of saying "We're here for you, you tell us what you think, we're your show" yeah, hang on, but your getting paid for it, we're not. All they ask of someone on telly is to sit there and go "do you know what? That's good, that's good, I wouldn't have thought of that" that's why he's getting paid and too often you don't see it.”
Danny Baker

Bertolt Brecht
“The dramatic theater's spectator says: "Yes, I have felt like that too - just like me - it's only natural - it'll never change - the sufferings of this man appall me because they are inescapable - that's great art; it all seems the most obvious thing in the world. I weep when they weep, I laugh when they laugh.

The epic theatre's spectator says: "I'd never have thought of it - that's not the way - that's extraordinary, hardly believable - it's got to stop - the sufferings of this man appall me because they are unnecessary - that's great art: nothing obvious about it. I laugh when they weep. I weep when they laugh.”
Bertolt Brecht

Friedrich Nietzsche
“What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end.”
Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra
