"So far, utterly brilliant. And utterly disheartening most Goodreaders don't share my opinion." Apr 17, 2014 06:53PM

"My first acquaintance with Greg Iles. Had this on reserve on the library for two months. Was expecting a large-ish 800 page book. The librarian reaches under the counter and (with considerable difficulty) hoists this OED-sized tome. Turns out, the only copy the library sprung for is the "large print" edition (at a whopping 1,400 pages). Guess I'll be at this a while. (So far, ok...and Uncle Stevie-approved!)" Jennifer Egan
“See," Sasha muttered, eyeing the sun. "It's mine.”
Jennifer Egan, A Visit from the Goon Squad

P.G. Wodehouse
“There is no surer foundation for a beautiful friendship than a mutual taste in literature.”
P.G. Wodehouse

John Kennedy Toole
“I am at the moment writing a lengthy indictment against our century. When my brain begins to reel from my literary labors, I make an occasional cheese dip.”
John Kennedy Toole, A Confederacy of Dunces

David James Duncan
“But I finally concluded that it is an inalienable right of lovers everywhere to become temporarily worthless to the world, it may even be their duty.”
David James Duncan, The Brothers K

Leif Enger
“Real miracles bother people, like strange sudden pains unknown in medical literature. It's true: They rebut every rule all we good citizens take comfort in. Lazarus obeying orders and climbing up out of the grave - now there's a miracle, and you can bet it upset a lot of folks who were standing around at the time. When a person dies, the earth is generally unwilling to cough him back up. A miracle contradicts the will of the earth.”
Leif Enger, Peace Like a River
