stopping point: page 125

looking at the vast assortment of knowledge tucked away on my shelf made me paralyzed on what to prioritize. every time i picked a book up and started delving deep into its pages, i always came out of it with a sense annoyance in the underlying backbone that its ideas all relied upon. it felt too rigid in the way that the world that we live in is just how its always gonna be and that the theory behind it all is rock solid and is never gonna change

as my consumption and understanding has increased, my skepticism of the almost simplistic outlook of how circular economics is portrayed began to waiver. there was just this sense of unease and disconnect between what i was reading and what was happening in real life. its almost like doing grade 11 physics and assuming the ideal conditions for an object when in reality that’s literally never the case.

beginning with adam smith and most recently with friedman, their championing of the never ending increase in gdp that capitalisms hunger requires and the idea that things have to be bad before they become good have infiltrated the minds of almost every person i’ve met. and yet, it never seemed quite right to me.

this book punches a huge gaping whole through these prehistoric ideas and opens up a conversation that puts the emphasis back on social and environmental goals without conforming to the idea that sacrifice is required for human development.

not to go review the whole book right now as i prolly will have a lot more to say later but this new outlook has made me excited again to learn more and expand my knowledge into more contemporary economic theory.
