I really liked this book. I got sucked into it pretty easily, and the last quarter of it was "I want to ignore everything I need to do this day and finish it out". Sanderson continues to be one of those authors where the mysteries pay off.

As I was reading the book, there were mysteries that were revealed that I didn't even know were mysteries with a delightful explanation. In hind sight, maybe I should have realized because he kept referencing things, so there were hints that certain things were important even though they didn't seem to be, other than character building. There were a number of times I said out loud "Ooooo" because something made sense.

Sanderson crafted a really interesting world, and the characters grew throughout the books (even if they felt a little flat in book 1).

The biggest downside is I know that there are pieces of a 30+ long arc in this series and he won't be done writing it until we are in our 70s, so I hope wikis can help me remember bits I noticed or missed without spoiling everything. (I already glimpsed into some wikis and learned more than I meant to).

Now, I do have 2 complaints/concerns with this books. One is that for the same reason book 1 felt a bit sexist, so does book 3. I loved the strength of Vin, but her love of balls and ballgowns kept feeling like the author wanted to make her stereotypically female as well. I'd love to hear a non-male perspective on this sometime.

The other major complaint is the legacy of the Lord Ruler. One of the aspects of the first book that I loved is that it was a parable about slavery. The enslavers in the book are awful and the enslaved are treated horribly. It was a book about rebellion and creating freedom and a kingdom for people to be treated fairly. But this gets completely lost and forgotten. (view spoiler)

My biggest complaint is that the 2nd Mistborn series was started more than 6 years ago and book 4 won't be finished until at least 2023. His other long series is supposed to be 10 books (2 sets of 5 books), and the 4th just came out. So, I'm not sure when I can read another book since I like waiting for series to be done before reading them. ...more "
