“إن أسوأ فكرة خطرت للإنسان : أن يكون بطلا في الحرب , و هناك ألف مكان آخر يمكن أن يكون فيها بطلا حقيقيا . و لكن هذه الحرب فرضت علينا , و لم نخضها كي نصبح أبطالا , بل خضناها لكي نكون بشرا , كرمهم سبحانه و تعالى حين قال : ( و لقد كرمنا بني آدم ) صدق الله العظيم .
نحن لا نريد أكثر من أن نكون بشرا . أما ما أحلم به , فهو أن تكونوا أبطالا كلكم بعد هذا الحصار . فالبطولة في أن تبنوا بلادكم بأمان , و أن تزرعوا أشجاركم بأمان , و ألا تخافوا على أطفالكم , لأنهم محاطون بالأمان .
سيصبح كل رجل بطلا حين يتجول في الطرقات , كما شاء , دون أن يعترض طريقه أحد , أو ينال من كرامته أحد , أو يسرق قوت عياله أحد , أو يعبث بحياته أحد , أو يقيد حريته أحد .
و تكون البطولة , حين تسير امرأة بمفردها فيهابها الجميع , لأنها بطلة على جانبيها أطياف مئات البطلات و الأبطال . أريد شعبا كاملا من الأبطال , لا شعبا من الخائفين بين هذين البحرين : بحر الجليل و بحر عكا .
البطولة الحقيقية في أن تكونوا آمنين إلى ذلك الحد الذي لا تحتاجون فيه إلى أية بطولة أخرى ..”
