I did not like this book because some pieces of the dialog were confusing! For example: the first 2 chapters is pretty much Danny (Main Character) complaining about how he is too small to play basketball with the big kids. “You know that growth spurt you guys have been promising me my whole life? When does it kick in exactly?” You have no Idea who is talking during that sentence and it’s really confusing. The second reason why I don’t like is because Danny is underestimating himself by saying he is to small, “Not to be hurtful” Ali said to Danny, “But it’s the growth spurt you never really had dear.” Then finally his Dad slightly convinced Danny that he wasn’t tiny or small by saying “I don’t suppose it matters that you were an eighth grader basically playing on a ninth-grade team, and going up against teams that had all ninth graders.” Danny responded by saying “You know what coach Parcells always said, you are what your record says you are”. My third and final reason is because it took to long to pick up, by that I mean it took to long for the book to get good. It took to long because the first 10/11 chapters were just Danny still complaining and being annoying and its also just Danny’s team practicing and its just boring. By the 12th/13th chapter is when the action started. Like when Danny got into a fight with this kid named LA ‘mar. Also its when the basketball tournament starts and that’s when Mike Lupica gets very descriptive with his writing. Those are my thoughts on the book Summer Ball by Mike Lupica!...more
